**FIXED**

Hi everyone,

A buddy of mine had his 2012 GT500 dyno tuned back in January which ended poorly. Fast forward a few months later and we finally got him a forged iron 5.4L through ModMax and while piecing everything together (being as meticulousas possible) we finally put the engine in. And as our Intensity rises to hear this puppy start again, we started topping off the fluids and I instantly hear ...coolant on the ground! Err.

Well it's coming from behind the original oil filter adapter or housing - whatever it's truly called. And obviously the fluid is coming from the large coolant hole on the driver side - above the oil ports. So as the night took a turn we all started scratching our heads and I'm honestly quite confused, so please help me out.

If this part (oil filter adaptor) sealed on his 5.4L aluminum block without any issues, both blocks look completely the same; in the sense of alignment/machined surfaces, plus the part was installed and torqued perfectly. Why is it leaking?
Sure, after looking at other photos online you can tell this adaptor doesn't have a machine finish to "block" the coolant port, but again, it worked fine on the other engine. What am I overlooking? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Ken.

Not familiar with your model but there has to be an oring (likely) or gasket. I’d lean towards an Oring you’re missing.

Or is it possible that one of the ports should be plugged and the shop missed it?

I think that where the oil cooler is, and you're probably missing an o-ring to seal between the cooler and the block. Or it could installed wrong... pictures?

It does have two o-rings to deal up both oil ports but nothing for the coolant part of the block. Alldatadyi.com didn't show any other gasket or seal to attach.

So it calls for only two o-rings which is inside the unit. As you can see in the website photo the two oiling ports but it doesn't specify anything about the gasket above for the giant coolant port. Even when you look at the part below you can tell there's no machined surface part to even apply rtv to seal it up.

As far as mounting it up wrong, I did this when the engine was out of the car, making sure everything was mounted right - it does have two (or three) alignment dowes.

Don't quote me on this, but I think there is a plug that goes on the inside of that water passage.

Found the problem guy! Turned out that the engine builder forgot to place a freeze plug into the water pump area. All we did was added an AN nipple with a cap, and within that passage coolant goes out to the driver side. So time to rip more apart and add in that freeze plug.

So the "experts" at modmax forgot something as remedial as that? I'd be pissed if I was the owner.
