The obvious answer. Won't even have to pick up the bodies afterwards

Looking for some ideas on how to deter squirrels from my yard.

I'm having MAJOR issues with squirrels digging all over my rear yard and tearing up my newly planted grass.
There are areas that literally look plowed because they have dug it so much... At any given time there are 3-4 of the little shits running around back there.
I don't think my neighbors would appreciate me sitting out there with a .22 or paintball gun, and my wife would probably divorce me for it anyways...

Its a decent sized yard, so any repellant could get expensive.
Anyone had luck with fake owls or hawks?
I've seen trees with aluminum foil wrapped around the base. Not sure if that's for squirrels or bugs though.

Any ideas?
Our two Beagle pups completely trashed the back yard. I'll have to take some photos.

1. Dug about 20 deep holes in the lawn.
2. Ripped half of my BBQ grill cover to shreds until I blocked it off.
3. Ate the door mat.
4. Destroyed the broom.
5. Ripped bark off trees.
6. Chewed up a coax cable (don't care though since we don't use it anymore)

Because of this destructive force we keep them in a crate indoors until they become domesticated lol! And squirrels stay away for now.

2nd vote for motion activated sprinkler. I had issues with 5 different neighborhood cats that would get in the neighbors trash and spray my truck. Within one week it's all quiet around here again. Plus, the footage of the same cat getting sprayed night after night is hilarious.

Man, didn't realize so many people hated the critters. I really enjoy having them around. A while back my neighbor mentioned he was picking them off and asked how I was dealing with them. I told him I loved watching them, they're free entertainment, and I'd return fire if I ever caught him. :) He never mentioned it again.

My roommate in college went to the pet store and bought a block of squirrel food and put it in the middle of the yard. Tons of them would come down and eat it while he picked them off with a Gamo .177 scoped pellet gun. They definitely stopped coming in the yard after seeing a bunch of their buddies get whacked.

A Pellet gun and a hard heart.

Leave their lifeless bodies in the yard as a cautionary tale to the other tree rats.
That’s what my father-in law does. I visited him last year and there were two dead squirrels on the lawn near his back porch that he shot. He left them there until wildlife took their corpses.

I started shooting the rabbits that were eating the garden.

After those were gone, I took out the chipmunks. Way smaller and harder to shoot.

I’ve moved on to crows and squirrels.

The (2) things that worked for me was:

1.) Spread cayenne pepper in the yard in the areas where the squirrels are. Or u can spray the pepper with something bigger like a Bear spray repellant but would have to reapply eventually after it rains.

2.) OR a Motion activated sprinkler or two. Squirrels hate water! Works off (4) double A batteries and lasts forever!

No, they’re cool to watch, but if they’re causing destruction then they have to go.
