This is the top story on the local news. A guy has a 2-step on a Mustang, and the WPD want him after getting it on film and apparently 911 has been getting a few calls for gunshots lol.

TL;DR Dumbass Kid with a 2-step is being confused with gunfire.

Check the links below for the cop video. Guy who was pulled over owes the 2-step bandit a drink.

Wichita Police seek help in finding car with rapidly backfiring exhaust

KWCH said:
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Wichita Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding a vehicle with an exhaust that rapidly backfires, causing shooting calls around the city.

Police responded to multiple calls on April 11 and 18 of drive-bys or shots fired where they were unable to locate evidence, damage or injuries of a shooting.

“The calls caused a lot of fear throughout the community,” a release by the department said.

On Monday, April 19 after 4 a.m., an officer, while on a stop, saw a charcoal-colored mustang going eastbound on Kellogg in the 5300 block. The mustang accelerated, causing its exhaust to rapidly backfire, sounding like gunfire.

The officer was not able to catch up to the mustang due to its extreme speed, according to the department.

Those with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle or the identity of the driver is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111."[/kwch]

"The officer was not able to catch up to the mustang due to its extreme speed, according to the department." Right... no the officer was on a Dr. next to kellogg and it's a pain in the ass to get on Kellogg (US-54/400) on the east side of town where the underpass is.
The guy got off kellogg (probably 135) before the units watching for drunks downtown could intercept.

Lives in Tornadoville, get worked up over a 2-step. It is annoying though. Some asshole did it in Time Square recently, did not go well. I got pulled over for a pop on a shift one time. Judge laughed in court "this is a new one for me" dropped the ticket.

We actually have many, many more earthquakes than tornadoes now. (May 2019 was our last tornado watch, no watches in 2020, which has never happened before) And yes, people still call 911 for earthquakes. You hear a boom, like someone drove into the building and its typically a 3.9-4.0 that's shallow <5km deep. Deeper ones are much quieter.

Woodpecker in a gutter would be a terrible way to wake up. Be funny as hell in a movie though.

I had a damn woodpecker on my gutter Saturday morning, I thought it was gun shots.
Me, too. He hops over to my next door neighbor's gutter as well. The weird thing is that the gutters are metal. Why would a woodpecker peck a metal gutter? Maybe time for a name change, to metalpecker! LOL!

Funny that people think the 2-step is gunfire.

“Extreme speed” and “rapidly backfiring”. LOL

They might as well be describing an “assault weapon”..

I had some other names that day given to him, hahaha. I guess those folks haven’t heard gun shots before.

"If that's true kid, you have less brains than a woodpecker on an aluminum telephone pole."

He smells bugs. You probably have some behind your fascia or soffits. They'll try to peck through anything to get to it.

Update: Wichita Police find car with rapidly backfiring exhaust

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update Wednesday, April 21, 2021: Wichita police located the charcoal-colored Mustang that led to dozens of calls from people saying they heard gunshots near 13th and West Street. Police identified the Mustang as the source of those sounds and the calls that followed them during a Monday morning traffic stop.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop on Kellogg when they saw the Mustang speed down the road, causing the exhaust to backfire, sounding like gunshots. They followed the Mustang, but weren’t able to catch it. Police have not said how they found the car.
