At the risk of sounding dumb I am wondering if anyone can confirm this.

2014 GT500, stock other than an axle back and FRPP res delete. Last October I picked up the car, had it checked by Ford. All is good. I did notice that the coolant level was 1/8 of an inch bellow the cool range so I added some to get it back within the cold range (about the middle). I ended up bringing the car back for a coolant/intercooler flush on it as well because it was dirt cheap. The level was very close to where I left it

Last weekend I got the car out for the first time since last October. Changed the oil and a few other odds and ends. After checking the oil the following day I noticed the coolant it was down again about 1/4 inch from where I filled it last year. I don't see any evidence of it leaking anywhere, no white smoke, runs great yada yada. Took a look at the cap and the seals look ok but are turning white so I ordered a new one just because. I plan on doing a coolant pressure test this week just to make sure it passes.

My question, does the coolant level fluctuate this much on these? I understand coolant expands and contracts with temp, but I have owned quite a few performance cars (ford and different brands) from stock to heavily modified and rarely do I see any movement in coolant levels or need to add any.

If you had a coolant flush done and they didn't bleed the cooling system properly the level could have dropped as the air gets out of the system. Your radiator cap could be starting to not hold pressure properly as well. I've actually been meaning to change both of mine. I honestly wouldn't stress about it to much.

Thanks man. I kinda thought that as well on air in the system still. I did ordered a new cap over the weekend. Out of boredom, my buddy swung by so i could use his coolant system pressure tester. Held 15 psi like a champ so we went and had a few beers.

Yup I was going to suggest that next, but you're good to go.

A leak that small would be very hard find evidence of. I would put some dye in the coolant and do the pressure test again, if you start to notice it dropping more. You would have to also look in the heater core area not just the engine bay.

Agree with post # 2's coolant flush theory.
As far as the cap needing replacement, my 7+ year old caps are providing a constant fluid level in both tanks..

Thanks. At this point I’ll just watch it to see what happens then I’ll do the dye method if it drops again.

I would think they would be fine but the seals don’t look that great. For 20$, might as well change it. Intercooler cap as well.

@OP what fluid did you go with? I've been thinking about doing this as well as i'b below about an 1/8 as well. I think of it as good maintenance also. ( did the factory supercharger belt as it had a crack in it without even knowing. )

Just the Motorcraft yellow. You can also mix it with the orange (Ford discontinued the orange)
