I am watching this very closely. My first thought on this is say you got a 3 year old car. You took care of it but you have to switch to a EV. so you take it to the dealer hoping to trade it in on your new EV. You ask the dealer how much can I get for my car and he says Zero. They just take them to a crusher. How are people going to react to that LOL. Another thing if you have nothing but EV's running around you will most likely never go farther from home than you can make the round trip. Question, Will America go for that and are we to stupid to get it? I believe we are. SAD

How is that a good business decision though? How is a residual/resale value of zero a good thing for an OEM?

Yeah, I don't see this happening.

This won't be an issue with vehicle-to-grid charging.

Power companies in Northern Virginia have had devices installed on people's homes to control power usage for going on 20 years. The selling point to the sheeple was your Hot water heater doesn't need to heat water while you sleep. Plus we will give you a credit! The power companies have been stressed to keep up with current demands in urban areas for decades. Wait until everyone comes home from work and plugs there EV in, and they have to choose between Air conditioning usage or charging there car.

With how much power the governments have recently flexed with Covid rules I see them having no restraint in demanding your ICE car get crushed upon mandatory trade in. And here is an extra $2000 rebate on that new EV of yours. Will happen in all of the big first world cities world wide within 10 years I'll bet.. Another 10 years for smaller towns to catch up.

They will simply delete gas pumps and taxes will be double. All because of climate and pandemic fear mongering.

Two comments. I think the government will have to subsidize the destruction of ICE vehicles if they're banned at some point. Because obviously a traditional trade won't happen if there is no value to the ICE vehicle. That is something I haven't heard come up in a discussion. Imagine owning a $150K ICE vehicle and being told that next year the ICE ban begins and all gas pumps will be removed. Now I'm not saying it will happen that way, but.....

Second, you will see lots of quick-charge stations pop up all around the country. I believe quick-charging technology will evolve to ensure that people aren't majority inconvenienced if they have to top off the battery to get to their destination. JMO.

Subscription services aren't working though. Many OEMs pulled out of doing them because they were not a profitable business model. Car companies are wholesalers, they are not retailers.

...for now. I think the subscription based service is going to be predicated on the success of autonomous driving. People are less apt to get a service so they can swap out the kind of vehicle they have versus being able to summon a purpose built ride vehicle whenever and wherever you go. No worries about even having a garage, driveway, or even charging station. Lots of people forgoing ownership when they can use rideshare services already. Imagine when it's got the might of an OEM behind it, and without any pesky need for subcontractors or drivers.

Expect cash for clunkers 2: Electric vehicle boogaloo. We'll give you $5000 for every filthy ICE car you trade in for an EV. Look what cash for clunkers did to the used market before. Now imagine it with an even bigger motivation behind it (save the planet!), and the money printers going full steam.

...and now I'm on a watchlist for using the word "boogaloo" because it's an alt-right-anti-government-dogwhistle. /s Though I'm sure they watch everyone on this site closely anyway.

Does the VW diesel shake down play a role? I’d love to read that when/if you write it.

The VW scandal played a huge role both in financing some initiatives (though when did the government care about finances?), but more importantly it catalyzed (no pun) the crackdown on aftermarket parts and OEM testing. I've had to take the training both for aftermarket software and we had to take a bunch of training and testing on the OEM side as well.

the government wants to turn us into Zombies. I used to get pissed when my parents told me what to do now when the Government tells us what to do thats OK? What the hell is wrong with people. I still hate the MAN. One day the democrats will wake up and find they have nothing because they get everything from the government because the government has taken everything they had. It will get to the point where the government will provide every job run every business. How can the government tell automakers you cant build gas powered cars. Who gave them that power? It did not say this is ok but wake up people its coming. Soon we will all be sitting in the dark. farms will be covered in solar panels. There will be limited food so most will be engineered in a lab. If you think I'm crazy just look around. It's already starting to happen. Climate change is BS. It's not happening. The ocean is rising because China is building air bases in the South China Sea. The ice caps are not melting and the Polar Bears are not dyeing. Its all a load of Crack they want us to smoke. Where's Hunter We need a fix

So, how do you recharge an electric only vehicle that's out in the middle of nowhere? Assume this is after a hydrocarbon fuel ban. No portable gas/diesel generator etc.

Or tax dollars will go to fund “trade ins”.

Did you ever think the government is happy to have your movement hampered or have you further rely on mass transit that they own stock in?

Joe Biden has sniffed here.

Strap a windmill to the roof and blow, duh.

Assuming you can't get a Tesla Cybertruck rollback to take you back to a charging port, or an Amazon drone to drop you a new battery pack.

Are those universal charging stations or Tesla only? There's a Tesla one up the road from me and I find it incredibly annoying for some reason. Several of them just sitting there in their cars, combing their pubes, saving the world while they juice up.

If we just sabotage some of those stations leading to/from the upper east and west coast, maybe we can trick the greenies into driving in circles and thusly staying where they belong.

270 Million Registered Cars.

111,000 Gas Stations
908,000 Employees

Here are maps just for Shell and BP. The map would be a solid color if you added all the other brands. EV charge stations don't even compete with Propane. Never mind it takes 5 minutes to pump gas compared to a 1hr+ to supercharge a Tesla.

There are only 2,035 Tesla stations in the world, with ~1,000 in the US.

How long does it take for crude oil to form? I know, we've been told millions of years for our entire lives. Is there really any study on how long it actually takes? We've been told oil is a finite resource but is it really? With all the disinformation se've been asked to swallow lately, I wonder if this is another example of corporate media manipulation.
