trinity car with 17k miles with 860RWHP tuned by Lund on E85! I've done over 200+ pulls shifting @ 6750. yes i know i was at my limits with stock rods but i did a 2nd gear pull today barley in it enough to haze the tires and traction control came on ( i turned it off before the pull ) the car fell on its face and a poof of white smoke and oil everywhere. anyhow my question is could of traction control coming on cause this?

I disagree. When any of the four ABS/traction control sensors detect that a drive wheel is spinning at a rate higher than the others, ignition spark is retarded and the fuel/air ratio is modulated to attenuate torque delivered to the slipping tire.

If the condition persists, cylinder cut-off occurs, brakes are applied to the wheel with low friction, and power is transferred to the other drive wheel.

It actually cuts off several cylinders, making you less than a V8 for a brief period of time so a lean condition is possible imo. I thought Lund turned off the TC when they tune it. Why would urs still be activated?

Traction control or over 860whp either way the game was played with more power/boost. Build it for 1000whp now!

I doubt it too. Put enough high revs on the rods, even if it's cumulative, they're going to bend or break.
See this is why I didnt understand why Ford would tell people you could hold it at 7K rpms for 7 seconds or so,knowing the rods would not last over time.Thats why i wish JOHN COLETTI was back with ford running ford performance. He was the next great thing to SHELBY.

Key quote from your original post. "I've done over 200+ pulls shifting @ 6750. yes i know i was at my limits with stock rods." You can't blame TC. You abused the engine over time and it blew. Chalk it up to extensive abuse of a factory motor over time, BUT you had a lot of fun along the way. Now you have a great opportunity to build a stout 1000hp motor for next leg of your journey with your GT-500. The best is yet to come!

What?? Yes its made for 7k on factory power. He has almost 300hp more than what came factory. Ofcourse its not made for 7k pulls at that point anymore.

I understand that, his point was he never shifted at 7K.There are some reports of some stock motors having issues.I look at it this way. Some motors are just a little stronger than others.

I have heard that too. But in the OP situation he basically states he beat the crap out of his car and on this lastest pull it let go. At 860hp to the wheels even on E85 becomes a stress point. Thats 1000hp to the motor.

Trust me we all wish ford would have allowed a little more money spent on the 5.4/5.8 rods. Its the weak link.

Yea,and thats why i said what i did about JOHN COLETTI!!He put the right rods in the 03-04 COBRA,ANDA he wanted dam near everything fast, unlike the people that run ford performance.

So you're upset Ford didn't build the bottom end to support 50% more power than the car came from the factory with? I'd call that asking a little much. You wanna go significantly faster than what it was designed for, build it before or after failure, your choice. The difference is the $$$.

Yes John did a great job, but he also was very limited on money too. In order to get those rods he went with a much cheaper weaker piston in the 03/04 cobras. It was a give and take much like the SVT with the shelby project.

SVT Shelby ended up using a weaker rods, but stronger pistons. Also ended up with a 5.4 over the 4.6. And a 2.1L blower vs 1.8.

Sorry to hear about what happened OP, unfortunately at that power level anything could have happened, especially shifting so high. Hopefully the heads are ok and you can just replace the bottom end.

What all did you have done to your GT500 to make that power?

If Ford had put better rods in the 5.8 it would be a 1000whp engine all day, but it's still a strong engine all things considered.

I have TC blow my intake pipe clean off. Pressure builds in the motor and the TC cuts you off cause if pressure with no release. Could have possibly caused a head gasket
