I have a Ford 95 Cobra R hood on my Cobra. Which are the best hood struts for this hood?
I have Redline on the fox and the S550, MRT on the new edge with carbon fiber hood.

Would hate to drill holes into the hood just for hood struts, any no drill kit that will work?

A set of MRT struts came on my 95 and I sold them asap. They don’t let the hood open enough to work on the engine, felt cramped.

Interested in others thoughts because the rod stinks

I had MRT's on both my 01 Cobra and 04. Loved them. 10 min install and no drilling.

I have MRT on my 98 Cobra with a HO Fibertrends (original company to make the hood) Cobra R hood. They fit fine under my factory hood but are not a direct fit under the said Cobra R hood. I had to cut the brackets down a lot and to get it to work. Now they fit like factory. But I also had to modify my CC plates to work with the R hood. In response to a previous post, my hood does open as high as it did with a hood prop. Maybe higher.

Great info, thanks. Would you mind sharing pics of the installed brackets and how much they had to be modified? I'm not running CC plates so I should be fine on that side.
Also, did you order the standard set for the stock hood weight or custom valving?

Did the hood open to the same level as the rod gets it?

Same or very very close.

Now I ended up buying the Ford Performance ones for my GT500 and they definitely do not raise the hood as high as the prop rod does but its sufficient I guess. Can't really speak to the MRT's for SN97's.

I just ordered the MRTs. Provided them the hood weight I found on the HO Fiber Trends site for custom gas cylinders. Hope it works out well.

You'll like them a lot. It's great that you can customize the gas cylinders. Many moons ago, there were folks who had to deal with damaged hoods because the cylinder pressure was too high for their fiberglass hoods. I don't remember what brand.

well, what a dissappointment, the MRT mounting bracket does not fit the Cobra R hood. No idea in what way to modify it either.

I have a HO Fibertrends hood too. I was planning on picking up the same set. What is in the way that they don't fit?
My hood is the OEM style 96-98 hood with the 1" raised cowl. (Love my hood)

They will work on the HO Fibertrend hood. But it took a fair amount of modifying on the brackets. I'm sorry, I never got a notification from your quote months back. I'm just seeing it now. I'll get you some pics in the next day or so.

I'm glad I took these pics because I completely forgot I need to repaint the brackets. Also, the holes in the hood are there to clear my BBK CC plate bracket stud. This may or may not be a issue for anyone else.

You had to cut that notch out of them toward the middle? What was in the way?
I installed the hood the summer of 2020 and only trimmed what I needed to trim to get the struts to work with the hood. The notch on the corner next to the hole in the hood is to clear my CC plates. The plates was never a issue with the factory hood. The MRT struts also worked fine with my factory hood with no modifications. It is because of the H.O.F hood. I'm pretty disappointed in this hood overall.

I've had a set of redline tuning struts on my oem cobra hood for at least 10 years now with no issues. As mentioned I did have to drill for the brackets though
