So I just got brand new mufflers installed on my 97 cobra and disappointed would be an understatement. I replaced the old mufflers because they were bad and making an extremely annoying rattling sound at all rpms. The previous ones on the car were flowmasters as well but I'm not sure which ones.

My car now is so quiet I can barely hear it. It's a real disappointment. No more rumble or head turns or anything. The car had the catalytic converters before and after install. So I'm baffled.

To what I understand there is no break in period for flowmasters. All my 4.6 sohc seemed to be noticably louder then my cobra even with the cats on smh.

Any ideas? I'm really considering running no mufflers at this point. My car sounds like a damn v6 with flowmasters imho

Remove the cats and it will be louder. The 4v has a mellower sound then the 2v. For example my Terminator has 40s on it, switched to an o/r x, no where near as loud as my 2v with the same setup

Im in sacramento and have some borlas on my car that I'm going to take off. I'll sell them to ya if you want. No issues with them, just too loud.

What all do you have done exhaust wise? I'm seriously consider deleting the mufflers since that's basically what I had before adding brand new flows

Long Tubes / X Pipe / Borlas. These borlas are basically like not having mufflers. Even with the catalytic converters it would be very loud.

Maybe you got the Delta Flow 40's and not the original 40 Series.

Check your receipt for the part number or ask the installer for the P/N and look it up. Look under the car and verify what you have.

You shouldn't be disappointed with original 40's, unless your goal is to be completely obnoxious.

Wait, your title says 40 series, then in this reply you say 10. What were you looking to purchase. What did you ask for specifically?
I don't why you'd want Flowmaster anyway. They were on my car for a bit and were annoying as all hell.

You probably want super 44s.

Also go larger diameter... 3 inch exhaust will give you alot more volume... 2.5in or any smaller bottlenecks can make things very quiet.

The part number matters.

I've had 2 chamber Flowmasters and they were wild loud, as in could hear the car scooting onto the freeway from miles away. I've also had Magnaflows that were nice and mellow at everything but full throttle and sounded marvelous but not crazy loud.

I think you let someone else pick your muffler part numbers.

You can't compare it to a 2v. My opinion is there's no better sounding ford engine than a 2v with cams.

Your exhaust was stock besides the mufflers?

When I bought my car it had Super 44's on it. I have LT's and o/r X and they sounded good. I just wanted something else and opted to put Stingers on my car. Definitely a bit louder than the 44's were and better sounding IMO. If you were closer you could have my 44's, they're just sitting in my garage.

Well, my 97 came with a muffler delete, but all of the cats and H-pipe intact. Essentially, a stock Cobra exhaust minus the mufflers. Loud, but sounds good to everyone who cares about such things. In 5th gear, while cruising, you can talk and hear comfortably in the cabin.
