Any one know what size nuts (bolt size and pitch) fit the rear end tie rod?

I ran to lowes/Home Depot and they didn't have the fine pitch that fits the tie rod bolt. It's either a 5/8 or a 16, just dont know what pitch. It looks like I have the Maximum Motorsport adj tie rods? Don't want to spend $250 for some nuts.

It came off while driving and the rear end broke loose. Make sure to check your suspension, folks, this could have been a really bad day for me!

According to MMs instructions they are 5/8 by 18 TPI.

I just checked my FTBR kit and they are also 5/8 by 18 TPI.

Make sure you get nylock nuts and check the torque on the other side. If that side isn't nylock get 2 at the store. They are however a low profile nut and may be hard to find locally unless you have a fastenal near by.

If you can't find nylock nuts use red thread locker.

I am curious as to how it came off. If it was the proper nut torqued to the proper spec that shouldn't happen. You're lucky you didn't loose the car.

I also just realized you're missing your spacer stackup too. You're going to have to call MM or source some elsewhere.

Until you can re bumpsteer that wheel it will be off. You'll also need to have the toe checked because there is no guarantee that it will be in spec with the rod end sitting at the different height.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I took the nuts and spacers off the other side, which didn't require a lot of torque to break loose, so that I reference when I ran to the store.

For the nylon nut, do the instructions say to use 1 or 2 nuts? On my driver's side, there are two nuts that mount the tie rod to the hub.

This is what I took off from the rear driver side (the top 2 spacers were sandwiched between the tie rod and hub:

I assume I can just get a spacer(s) of equal height as the driver's side.

You can head over to MMs site and download their instructions BTW.

Did you take both nuts off and pull the tapered stud out of the knuckle?

Or were there two nuts securing the toe link to the stud? There should only be one.

As for the spacers you'll have to buy a set. Duplicating the stack up on the opposite side doesn't guarantee your bump steer or toe will be correct.

This is because the stack up is almost never the same side to side. I myself have different shims on each side of the car.

Again once you put it back together you need to have the rear toe checked at a minimum because you've most likely changed the location of the rod which affects toe as well as bump steer.

I highly suggest you head over to MM and do some reading on bump steer. FTBR also has a lot of good info and will help you understand what I am talking about.

You will need a hardened washer larger than the diameter of the knuckle of the heim joint, under the nut. This will prevent the arm from falling off the stud mount, if the joint fails.
The first nut will probably be a half nut.
