It sounds like an April Fool’s Day joke but it isn’t. Volkswagen of America is changing its name to Voltswagen of America. That’s Volts with a T. It’s all got to do with the transition to electric vehicles. All EV models will have a “Voltswagen” badge on the exterior while gas powered models will carry the traditional VW logo. Starting today, the new branding rolls out to its advertising, website and social media channels. And soon, all of its dealers in the U.S. will have the new Voltswagen signage.

When you have a more complex design relative to your peers that's half as durable and costs 2x to fix, you gonn get your shit pushed in.
VW dominates global markets, but is just completely unable to figure out how to market and sell cars in the US.

Audi has thrived and become a major player in the last 20 years, as well has Porsche and Lamborghini. (all owned by VW). Yet VAG can't crack that code.

VW won't be a threat to Tesla until they can figure out how to sell cars to the avg buyer. From purchase, to integration, to features, and down to the culture, Tesla has VW beat on the EV side. It's why the whole "voltswagen" thing is going to flop. It's tone deaf

Volkswagen name change said to just be an early April Fools' Day prank
  • Volkswagen's (OTCPK:VLKAF) name change for its U.S. operations is an early April Fools' Day prank, according to reports from both CNBC and The Wall Street Journal.
  • The company went to the effort to issue a full press release earlier today on the Voltswagen pivot after the info leaked yesterday. Traditionally, prank press releases arrive on the 1st when investors are somewhat skeptical of outlandish corporate announcements.
  • Shares of Volkswagen rallied more than 10% today.
