It’s a real problem here right now. We’ve done almost 8 with stolen converters in the last month or two. And props to you for sticking with factory cats. We’ve seen real problems with aftermarket converters failing efficiency tests, triggering DTCs. Two aftermarket brands we absolutely won’t touch anymore due to it.

Pick your poison.

What'll the environmentalists think of next? Recycling stuff that's at end of life makes sense, but this "precycling" of stuff that still works is nuts. Time to switch to diesel.

We've had around 115 catalytic converter thefts here in Winston Salem so far this year.
like honestly, someone should have local PD or Sheriff sit outside all the known "recyclers" and see if theft drops or not.

You can sell, but you feel confident rolling in with a bed full of cut off cats? Even if it doesnt do anything, it makes me feel better. I dont want to have to worry about paying my damn deductible every few months....

Definitely looking into auto floodlights for the front of the house. Maybe a go pro on auto record loop.

Our CEO just had his cut out of the Land Rover he was keeping on the 3rd level down in our company parking garage in north central PHX. It's been a thing for years but it seems to have caught fire lately.

I truly believe thieves should be hung publicly. Imagine how rare common theft would become.
Honestly, modern society is ****ing weak. Want to commit the crime? Be prepared to pay for it with your life. Modern liberal ideals removed consequence because its mean or cruel. Well congrats you stupid assholes, this ****ed up society is the result. I hate modern far left liberals.

Once battery technology caught up, and made these "Sawzalls" cordless, theives went ape shit. Ban recycling of them, unless you are a scrapyard, and you deal with a licensed recycling center.

I've been owning cars for 30 years, not once have I "recycled" any of my cars' converters. Dude shows up 2x a week with 30 converters at a pop?? That should raise some eyebrows. I blame the recyclers.

You "could" hook up an electric fence transformer, to the exhaust system, but then guess who the police will arrest .

Yes and no as I know a ex chopper and he was in with about 20 others so what they do is do it 5-10 converters at a time then 20 people and there is your whole 65+ or more converters spread out and no one is the wiser. Plus you also go to other said sites and so spread it around to even muddy the waters further, in case local or state agencies are on the trail.

Think many that are stolen are shipped out of the USA to Mexico and then re-entered back in the USA as "used" replacements?

But, but, but......these thieves (many of them) are under-privileged, adversely affected by "systemic racism", just trying to eke out a meager living to put food on their family's table. Our racist society has driven them to this. o_O:rolleyes:

I have to wonder how many police departments are even interested in investigating these property loss crimes. They're stretched thin as it is. As police departments are being de-funded, they are not going to have the needed manpower, and the lowlife thieves know this. I know in my own town, most of the cops have to be assigned to traffic control at worksites where utilities are replacing street lights, installing traffic light cameras (?), fixing/installing sidewalks, and making a lot of repairs. The 3rd shift is under-manned.

Back in the day, companies used security guards to protect their vehicles and property. Maybe we'll see a re-birth of that. Homeowners will have to do whatever they can, like.....
* Ensure vehicles are locked
* Keep vehicles in garages whenever possible
* Install bright floodlights with motion sensors
* Install bright floodlights and keep them on all night
* Install security cameras all around the home's exterior
* Develop local homeowners groups that collectively watch over properties

Sucks that we even have to think along these lines. Morality and decency are but a skeleton today. Replaced by entitlement thinking/behavior. A wrong is a right if it benefits the offender. o_O

Sons of bitches... left for work this morning and found a note on my house door from neighbor. Neighbor wanted to talk my Excursion. Figured they didnt like I parked in front of our house on the street instead of the driveway. Left the note for my wife to call.

Well she called and apparently the neighbor saw two assholes with a sawzall getting up from under my truck with a peice of exhaust. Ran back to their truck and took off.

Sure enough my wife went to look and our big ass 2001 V10 converter assembly is ****ing gone...

We have full coverage insurance so it will be taken care of one way or another, but Im getting more and more pissed off thinking about it....

This may total my Excursion.... ****ing bastards! Just had to vent...

Even though you have insurance you might not be taken care of. They are only supposed to make your car the same as it was. Some insurance companies will only cover the left over life of the catalytic converters.

When you get your new cat put on go to Home Depot and buy the thickest rebar you can find and have the exhaust shop weld it on the car. It will take the sawzall forever to cut through it.

Most of these cats are shipped to China from
What my Leo buddy says.

Prius cats are popular with thieves. We used to get cars in for stolen cats and surprisingly it was usually a Prius.

Edit: I just had a realization. Is the spike in cat theft a result of the shortage in micro chips so they are paying more for precious metals in the cats?

Hard part with that is that there are actually honest people who go around to the shops and purchase the cats we have replaced for cheap and then they sell or recycle them. I usually had 2 or 3 people call me every 2 weeks to check what we had.
