Sons of bitches... left for work this morning and found a note on my house door from neighbor. Neighbor wanted to talk my Excursion. Figured they didnt like I parked in front of our house on the street instead of the driveway. Left the note for my wife to call.

Well she called and apparently the neighbor saw two assholes with a sawzall getting up from under my truck with a peice of exhaust. Ran back to their truck and took off.

Sure enough my wife went to look and our big ass 2001 V10 converter assembly is ****ing gone...

We have full coverage insurance so it will be taken care of one way or another, but Im getting more and more pissed off thinking about it....

This may total my Excursion.... ****ing bastards! Just had to vent...

That sucks. Good time to get cameras around your place.

We got some Ring cameras with the motion lights and when 2 guys went around our neighborhood to search cars they avoided our driveway when the light turned on/camera was obvious.

Do you have emissions where you live?

Lol, something about the fact (in that article) that they are stolen most off Prius makes me laugh.

Sorry OP, that does suck though. Takes some balls to get under a truck with a sawsall and hit the exhaust. That has to be loud AF and you have no idea if you're getting walked up on.

Stealing cats has become a thing the past year.
Yep! Found out about a month ago that some thieves broke into the school bus lot across the street from our church and stole over a dozen catalytic converters. They got through the fence and used a sawzall to cut the exhaust pieces. They just slid under the buses one at a time and in less than a minute or two on each one they had their prizes. Other bus storage lots have gotten hit as well. Trucks, too. I had footage on our church security camera but it was 2:30 AM with no light over there so you can't make out any discerning details. A Cheshire officer reviewed our video and unfortunately it wasn't much help. They actually parked in the driveway next to our building. I was hoping they'd turn around in our parking lot. Nope! They were slick. It was like they knew we had cameras but the adjacent property didn't.

Since then, we've had regular patrols at different hours after dark.

This has been going on for sometime here. Even the new car dealers are getting hit. What's not hard to understand? Cats will only become more valuable because of both the material and law requirements. Wait until these battery cars get popular, they will be stolen just for the batteries. At 20k for replacement for new on the mach E alone. Stupid

A couple of years ago where I'm at they hit a dealership doing about 35 to 40 in 1 sitting, on brand new cars. Here you can't take them to the scrap yard without going to get a permit (and aluminum) i think from the police department.

Not sure what your deductible is, but they are 450-650 off rockauto for the converter. Throw in another 25 for the downstream your back in business.

Take it to the dealer for the insurance cost and your right its prolly totaled.
Yeah, for the deductible amount, we could have gotten an aftermarket cat and had it welded in, but I'm a stickler for factory parts as important as this. Even if I get 3-5 years out of the cat, I dont have any chill for replacing it that frequently.

Sad thing is that the last emissions check, I was significantly below the max allowable levels for all measured pollutants.
