Slav squat - n. The squatting position often adopted by "gopniks" (lower class slavic people) while typically loitering, smoking, and/or drinking. See previously posted pictures for reference.

It's common in most Southeast Asian countries as well. I have Japanese friends that squat like that when outside smoking, Thai people do it, and I'm pretty sure I have seen Indians doing it also. In the poorer countries it is how they shit in their toilets which are just holes in the ground and I know it is like that in certain parts of Russia as well so my guess is that it comes from the common shitting position.
