I'm looking to get out of my truck: 2013 GMC SLT with 35k miles. It has basic options for a SLT - no navigation or rear camera. I have been looking at other trucks but I think I would rather take the equity out of it and get a cheaper DD for now. That being said, I decided to check Carmax and Carvana to see what they would offer.

I went to Carmax online, typed in my Vin, and the offer came in at $24,200 which I thought was pretty good. I did the same thing on the Carvana website and they had a crazy offer: $29,200. That is an absolute madness. I know used cars are crazy now but I paid 33k for it 6 years ago. How can I turn that down?

This leads me to my next question: Best DD for under 10k with the only requirement that it is a sedan/SUV with ~100k or less miles. Honestly, I would be open to going to 12k if they actually give me $29k but we'll see. Are there any legitimate contenders to the Camry/Accord and their respective Lexus/Acura? I know that the Nissan Altima had their transmission issues back then. those. Hyundai's from that era weren't what they are now. Same with the Kia's. Am I missing any hidden gems?

Thanks!

Carvana pretty true to what they offer online. I sold them my truck 2 weeks ago they offered me the most at 50,200 for a 2019 at4 with every option available. Carmax only wanted to give me 44k. I owe 48k so I came up 2k and just bought a new Honda accord cause gas is getting crazy.

Cars.com has a car buying program as well. I got better offers through that a few years back.

Maybe this is the whiskey talking but IMO if you want a cheap fun reliable daily driver for well under $10k, check into a Grand Prix GTP. Or Regal GS. Good ones are still out there for cheap. They're dirt cheap to maintain, still satisfyingly quick, there are easy cheap upgrades to brakes, suspension, exhaust, and boost.

We bought a 2011 Malibu brand new, sold it to our in-laws when we upgraded for 3 kids.

No issues at all. Boring and lifeless, but reliable as hell. (2.4? Whatever the 4 cylinder motor is)

You can find a higher mileage Fiesta ST for at or under $10k. I loved mine when it was a daily driver and it has almost all the utility needed with the hatch. Another option could be a Focus ST, which are hovering around that same price range with a bit more mileage.

How about a newer Panther platform?
I found a gem for 4K and use it to stack the miles. 100k when purchased.
215k on it now and never had an issue.
Average 24 mpg mostly hwy driving...

To bad you don’t live closer. I am about to drop my stock ‘07 Mazdaspeed3 with 84k on the market for 6k. It’s a blast as a dd.
