I'm wondering what you guys think about this car's history. Here is the carfax: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?partner=frd_2&vin=1fa6p8cf7l5156537

It looks like it was serviced/bought at a Ford dealer in Long Beach, CA in late December 2020, then registered two weeks later in Michigan through the DMV with 10 miles on it. Then 3 weeks later it was bought at auction by Surprise Ford in Arizona and is now listed for sale with just over 2,000 miles on it. What are your thoughts?

I'm assuming it was bought by someone in Michigan who had it shipped from the dealer in Long Beach. Once they got the car, they kept it for two weeks, didn't like it, so they traded it in and Surprise Ford got it at auction? Looks like the first owner in Michigan drove it about 2,000 miles in two weeks. Hmmmm. Thoughts?

As I mentioned in the title of the thread, it is a PP2 car. It also has the leather Recaros.

Maybe it was used in a static display at a car show by Ford. OASIS or the window sticker would probably contain that information(or maybe not)

Interesting...it doesn't show anything on the window sticker and when I scan the QR code on the window sticker it takes me to the Ford site and says "history of this vehicle currently unavailable."

I guess the only other option for solving this mystery is the Oasis.

Agree. Depending on how it was configured, its might have been a rare loaded PP2. Look at date 1/27/21 and the comment "Listed as a manufacturer vehicle".

Maybe someone at Ford wanted this exact car, got it and used it as a training car and drove it around the country for 2 weeks. *OR* Another manufacturer wanted to benchmark this car against an upcoming trim for maybe Challenger or Camaro. Once it was done getting flogged for data, it was sold at Auction. Why one in Long Beach and ship it all the way back? Low COVID inventory would be my guess.

Maybe it wasnt shipped to Michigan. Maybe registered by a Detroit based mfg and shipped from CA to one of the proving grounds in AZ. Once it was done, it was sent to auction in Phoenix and thats where Surprise Ford got it.

But 13COBRA should be able to get to the bottom of this.

A lot of cars that are new go to auction.

I'll do some digging tomorrow.

Sent from my Potato

Yeah seen this first hand on three brand new cars

A 2011 Corvette was Victory Red but the owner after looking at it switched to Crystal Red with the same exact options.

2017 Audi A7 again got Black interior for a white but decided to want tan interior

2014 Honda CRZ didn't like the painted rims so went with the two tone with chrome inserts.

All of these cars ended up on the lot for a month and went to auction because the dealers was going to be on the hook for taxes on said vehicles which was on average about 3 months away in October of their said years. So best to just sell them and get them out instead of having them and getting ding right before spring of the following year with last year models.

Let's wait for Nick to do some digging. He'll probably find something that helps to solve the "mystery".

Factory exec vehicle.

Probably a plant manager or their spouse. It was a factory lease, which is when the factory covers the financial aspect, then they roll it through the auction when the term is up.

I think this is really plausible. We've done exactly this at work quite a few times. And if that's the case, believe me, you do NOT want that car.

Google maps shows Detroit to Phoenix right at 2000 miles. I bet somebody drove it there. I doubt we'll ever know the real story, hopefully somebody can score a good deal.

So a factory lease was up after 2 weeks? I don't quite understand what you're saying...

Yes.

The warranty start date and the release date from the factory are the exact day. (July 24, 2020). The only way that happens is if it's a factory car.

What do you think the dealer paid for that car?

Personally i think the car is on the high side of asking price, considering this past couple weeks could of bought it brand new cheaper.

Thanks for posting some REAL story facts, Nick. We learned something new today.

Nick, is it possible that the person the factory financed for was doing some special factory testing? Probably not, but the thought popped into my head.

No.

When the factory lends vehicles to people to test, they are pre-production cars. They wont' have a real VIN (they will have a 17 digit number for insurance purposes, but would never be able to pull a window sticker with it), and are always destroyed after their use is fulfilled.

Doesn’t the Ford family have a huge compound in Arizona ?

could a family member have driven it from Michigan to Arizona ?
