thought i'd post some sound clips of the 2 exhausts i have. simple startups + couple revs. the one thing these videos don't show very well is the volume difference - the stingers are much much louder than the m-58. i thought it stalled the first time i cranked it with the m-58 on but nope, it was just idling smoothly and quietly. i'll let ya'll make your own opinions.

personally, i love the m-58. much better/clearer tone, probably way too quiet for the typical cobra owner but i'm an audio engineer for a living and i feel like this exhaust is absolutely perfect for my tastes and hearing health. the only time i miss the stingers is at idle. the m-58 has no drone whatsoever at cruise or WOT, i think in part due to the 2nd crossover post mufflers. the roar at WOT is subtle and tasteful, i actually found myself driving the car a bit harder and less self-consciously than with the stingers.

first is stock manifolds > magnaflow 2.5" high-flow cats (all 4 of them, SMOG legal replacement) > mac prochamber > borla stingers catback

here's the link: IMG_1276.mov

second is stock logs > same magnaflow cats > magnaflow x-pipe > M-58 catback.

Would be interesting to hear the M-58 cat less as well; I’ve been tempted to get one as they aren’t quite as crazy priced like the M-55 is.
I just feel it’s a gamble if the set you buy will still have the passive baffles intact in the mufflers.

I like the sound of the M-58 in the second sound clip better than the first one.

i was able to score these in person and tested the flaps with a long dowel before purchase. nice and smooth and firm, no rattling. this particular set sat for 13 years in a storage unit, has 3k+ miles on it. i lucked out!

I had JBA shortys, a catted MRT H and a Steeda catback before my engine rebuild. The drone was bad around cruise speed and it sounded like a loud dump truck or Harley when you got on it. I tried Dynomatting the the entire cabin and trunk floor and it was not much better. I switched to the M-58 catback and the drone and sound were much better. I could talk to passengers again without raising my voice. The Steeda had a very nice sound with the stock H, but was unruly with the MRT H.

After the rebuild, I have Kooks LTs, a Kooks 3" midpipe with an X and high flow cats, and the M-58. It sounds so much better with the midpipe with an X. The system is also larger where the pulses are expanded and hot, and smaller where they have cooled some and contracted. This helps keep the exhaust velocity up and scavanges the pulses through the system. There is very little drone at cruise speed and people know it when you get on it. This is the best system I have had on the car and I have tried quite a few.

I ran a M58 back in the day and by far one of my most favorite catbacks ever! I wish they made it in 3" as that would be for sure what I would run today.

The second clip sounds awesome.

Interesting experience you had. I once had a Magnaflow catted X-pipe with Magnaflow catback. The drone was horrific around 2200 rpms. I swapped the Magnaflow catback to a Steeda catback and the drone disappeared entirely. I loved that setup. But again, that was with a catted X-pipe.
