I agree with the comments on compression but keep in mind if you cannot get e85 it is alot easier to cut boost than swap out pistons. I ran lower compression with this in mind YMMV.

You agree with the 10:1 or you think I should go higher?
If this were an all out car/build I'd probably go higher but I still drive around and over 10:1 just seems high. It's a 1.5 jump so I should see some nice gains.

I plan to go 10.5 with my build. It will primarily run on E85 but will see use with 93 in the tank. With the detonation protection of the MS3 as well as dropping the boost lower with a pulley change (if needed) I see no issues. Your 10:1 should be fine. I would consult the guy tuning your Cobra if you're unsure.

Fine, a flat top it is. I just messaged the builder and told him to go with a flat top as long as it would net me 10.5:1 or lower. So thats what he is ordering.
I also spoke to Kevin about this build and he said he's down for tuning it

Also, before I start a new thread, I see stewart makes two water pumps for our cars, a short and a long. Which one do I need? Is it a difference in the blocks or the belt system? Teksid block with 03 cobra accessory system.
Thanks

You need the short style. The difference is in the accessory drive system if my memory serves me correctly.

Going head first into a Teksid build myself. Undecided on compresssion - will cross that bridge later down the road. On one hand I see everyone pushing higher compression, but then there's guys like Allen Garrett running 8's at 150+ on a 9:1 Teksid (on C85)......higher compression means you can make the same power with less boost which is nice, but the tuning window is narrower and I do plan to set it up on flex fuel with the ability to run 93 from time to time just to flush the system out and for winter storage. At the end of the day it depends on your needs, tuner, etc, but I remain undecided for street use - ultimately I just want practicality and i'm not sure more compression is the answer when one can simply pulley down for a couple more pounds of boost if needed. That being said, I think a -5-8cc dish at around 9.5-9.8 :1 might be a good compromise which would still be a significant bump in compression while keeping the tuning window a bit more forgiving. Who knows......I might end up going flat tops too lol.

Another thing to consider, if the plan is to bump compression above 10:1, is oil temp as I see you're also doing an oil cooler delete. Higher compression may result in increased oil temps depending on how you drive/use the car. I decided to just go ahead and get a stand alone oil cooler along with a Canton pan so with the extra lines, cooler, and larger pan I should be able to use about 9-10qts and keep temps down. I do plan to autocross the car and do the occasional track day at the local road course. If you have the $$$, Improved Racing sells the best delete kit / stand-alone and it comes with a thermostat. I went with no thermostat and a Cobra Eng adapter plate - just going to have to wait a few min longer for the car to get oil temp. Also take note that the Teksid blocks have a different oil cooler gasket than iron blocks. Make sure to get the right one.

And don't forget to grab an OEM 3v windage tray - there's also a specific main stud kit for aluminum blocks that use this tray. The 03/04 pickup tube will need to be cut to fit, but its a simple fix.

Last thing I thought of - with higher compression you need a good starter - good time to swap that out if yours is old/tired as they're a royal B to change. I went with the FRPP high torque mini starter.......it also comes with a new charge cable.

So things are going slow and now even slower. My builder did not like that I question his piston of choice. Basically told me to come pick up my shit if I didn't agree with him. So needless to say I'm moving on. Bad thing is now I need to go get everything and basically start over with someone else.
So if anyone has any suggestions for a good mod motor builder in the south somewhere I'm all ears.

I'll check them out. I like the location, give me a reason to go to the beach more often.

I know right. I simply suggested that I liked the idea of a gibtec piston and he literally told me to come get my stuff, that he was done.

Sucks but I don't want to be involved with that

Better now than when there is a **** up and things are tense. Builds never go to plan and it sucks if you do not have a good relationship with the guy doing the work.

I agree. I just hope ge doesn't charge me a ton, he has all my parts and there is still stuff that I am having shipped to him that hasn't arrived yet.
Hopefully it all works out

Wow. What an odd reaction. Is he someone who’s built a ton of these before? And, since you brought up Gibtec, which package are you thinking of using from them? I know the group from another forum has the piston/pin/rings package, which seems like a great setup for high HP stuff.

I’m probably a few weeks behind you, and looks like we’re pretty parallel in our plans. As you’re gonna be a step or two ahead of me, I might bounce some questions off of you for tips/ideas. Feel free to do the same with me - if I can be of any help I’d be happy to. These things are worlds different from those old pushrod 302s....

Give my brothers shop a call for the Gibtec pistons, they are right in Denver about 5 minutes from Gibtec's facility and an authorized Gibtec dealer. You will get the correctly designed piston with the right compression distance and skirt thickness, plus a better price than calling direct.
