Life is to short. There's a lot of my dads friends that have plenty of should've would've could've just never pulled the trigger. And then time passes and one of them had gotten really sick and regretted not buying it and then shortly passed away. My old man said it goes by like a blink just do it!!

I haven't read any comments, but I will say this.

You only live once, tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Work hard, play hard!

If you can afford it, treat yourself! You can't take the money with you, enjoy life!

I had a guy come up to me after I parked my Viper, telling me how dangerous it is to drive.
I continue telling him that no, it behaves very well and has tons of grip. But ofcourse you don't go drifting in it because when those 335's hook you go flying.
But he kept trying to convince me how dangerous it is.

So I asked him what does he drive.
2007 GT500.

Talk about a death trap in comparison!
My Viper is easy to drive, my fathers Terminator terrifies me. I am not skilled enough to floor that one in any gear less than 3rd...
Short of bias plies or drag radials on a prepped surface, my GT500 has poor grip. On the fully stock suspension, it would spin trying to launch from a dig with drag radials. Viking Warriors, LCA's, LCA relo brackets, and UCA w/bracket helped on no prep, but only so much.

Its taken me a long time to come to terms that while I love my GT500, I long for a better platform. The GT500 was my dream car! Im not disappointed, but it certainly has strengths and weaknesses. Weaknesses I didnt realize I wanted to experience (handling, braking, auto trans, ease of making power etc).

I was on the fence about mentioning adding a C6 to my wife, especially with being close to paying off the GT500 and my wife having sold her car making a very small amount of cash. That and we have a 9 month old girl that I love with every fiber of my being. But Im a car guy, she knows that and I think she secretly wants a fast car with a removable top to enjoy too.

OP: Ive had Harleys, a Liter sport bike, an old MB S-class, a Lexus, a brand new off the lot Mustang GT, currently my GT500 and my Excursion and hopefully that C6. I have Zero regrets that I dont have more in savings. The experiences of enjoying vastly different vehicles before my daughter arrived in my life is something Ill always cherish. Having the GT500 to share with her is something I cant wait to experience. Adding a C6 for other avenues of performance is something I cant wait to share either! Ill be a proud papa if she show's interest. If she doesnt, thats ok too. But at least Ill have given her the opportunity to experience what gets her dad's blood pumping.

That is priceless.

A Gen V Viper was a dream car of mine when I first seen it at the Detroit Auto Show in 2013. While I had the means, I waited until I could pay in full when I bought mine and didn't need the money. To each is own though, Life is short but I'm glad I did it my way. C8 Z06 is on my radar but will never sell the Viper.

Amazing car.

Gen 2 and gen 5s are the best looking IMOP. When I see them my mouth hangs open and I start drooling.

You've got a nice Viper. Nice that you fulfilled your dream. Enjoy it this Spring and Summer. Now get her back into the garage where she belongs. LOL.

LOL at some guys comparing a GT/GT500/C5Z to a GenV Viper. Different worlds entirely. I wouldn't pay $90K for any Mustang, not sure if one even exists (fell out of Mustang following a while ago).

I agree with whoever said "Is a GenV Viper ~$70K more enjoyable than a C5Z?" Assuming you get a decent C5Z for around $20K and Viper is $90K. That's for OP to decide, but IMO it's not. Or even bump up to a C6Z($30-40K)/ZR1($50-70K) or C7Z($70-80k) and a realistic option if wanting to play but also "save some money" and not spend the $90K+.

All comes down to "do you think a car (because at the end of the day that's all it is) is worth shelling out $90K for in your current financial/life situation?"

PRO for all of this is resale value. Many cars you are guaranteed to lose money on them.

I always have mixed feelings about some that "live for today not tomorrow" or "tomorrow is not guaranteed". While true, you also need to consider setting yourself up TODAY FOR TOMORROW. All a balancing act to live within your means and make reasonable decisions.

Unless I had my dream house, on my dream property with my dream garage...my wife has everything she would desire, I'm not spending $90K on a car. I'm a car guy, but I'm also a realist and know there is more to life than cars. I'd get rid of my C5Z if it meant getting the last bit of money to get a property layout my wife and I have been looking for because the property is a longer lasting entity than a car.

OP, is this REALLY about a GenV Viper or is this deep down about a "cool car itch"? If it's an itch, can something cheaper scratch it for you?

You should go build/price a new GT500 CFTP...

There's a lot of win in this! Hard for me to argue with any of it.

You should go build/price a new GT500 CFTP...

I don't know what a CFTP GT500 is. Carbon Fiber Toilet Paper? I bet that's expensive. I'll take your word for it, but it's still a Mustang for that kind of money...no thanks.

A LOT you can do with $90k that gets you farther along in life than spending it on one car. I'm all for going for dream cars, but eeeesh @ $90K. I KNOW I KNOW tons of people go Lambo/Ferarri/MB/Maserati etc etc but I still think it's nuts LOL. I'm a regular guy that likes regular things. I'd rather have a nice pad on some acreage (which would hold value better) with a 5 car garage and have 5 fun cars (totaling $90K at the end of the day) than a cookie cutter house on 1/8 acre in a sub division with on $90K car. BUT if that's what YOU want, go for it.

But that's ME and MY desire. My "dream car" was a Corvette and I was fortunate to get into a C5Z. Many would laugh at the C5 being a plastic toy, and I would agree in the grand scheme of things and cars out there. BUT it works very well for ME and scratches my itch over and over. So yes I followed and got my dream car...but at a SEVERLY LOWER financial impact from a debt to income ratio in my life LOL.

HOWEVER...if I had NO debt...NONE (and I have the income I do now or more)...you might find me paying that much as the ultimate "I have f-you money...merry Christmas/happy birthday/merry kawanza to me" LOL

Oh I agree... I'm just saying there is a mustang that has the MSRP of $92,400 and people are paying a hell of a lot more than that for them. Makes no sense to me. I'm the guy that buys budget track cars and actually abuses the piss out of them. If you leave your ego at home and don't need the latest/shiniest it is always the more fun route to go.

The C5Z is a great car. Too many people want the latest and shiniest thing(me included, sometimes). The C5Z has so many great features and it is very lightweight.

Right, it's a 20+ year old car at this point. A Honda Civic comes better optioned than my car right now lol. I know I can't afford a Viper, I don't WANT to afford the maintenance on something like that either where I am in life. People can crap on me all they want being happy with "only a C5Z" but 1) It's paid for 2) Mods are affordable and plentiful 3) It's an amazing performing platform 4) It has it's "cheap interior" quirks but the car "fits me" in it's entirety.

Date night car with the wife, highway cruiser and autocross toy. I enjoy all it has to offer. Best part is I only had to pay $17500 for a 54K mi C5Z that I found locally to me. Sure there is some of the "Oh you drive a Corvette" from people that make you feel good, but I didn't buy it because of that. I'm sure that happens A LOT with a Viper too.

Some people have more expansive tastes. Cool, good for them. I personally can't justify OTHER PEOPLES tastes sometimes lol. But jesus would I love a GenV? Uhhh YES. There are simply too many other things I want to/can do with $90k right now that's all. OP may be fortunate enough to have $90k burning a hole in his pocket and wants a Viper. Have at it! I'll be the first to congratulate him!

It's a hierarchy.

Some guys want the latest most baddass Mustang.

They got $100k to spend and are going to spend it.

Sure it could buy a base Viper V or 911, but then you have the bottom rung car of those families, not the top end all - be all.

You can go into circles arguing about this stuff.

New vs Used, Modified vs Stock, Built vs Bought,
