They must custom order a bunch, and not aware of anyone else with their crazy lot inventory. CA guys are moaning that Koons won't sell to them and they definitely have a presence on the Dodge Challenger forums. But, you could persuade me otherwise :)

Koons has always been an interesting group of people. There are 5 or 6 other dealerships that operate the same.

Their allocation is absolutely ridiculous.

Takes some ownership commitment, the right guys and deep pockets. Losing a few key people could put ownership in a world of hurt fast, not for the faint hearted owner for sure. The right salespeople could make serious bank, but the hours have to be amazing.

Before buying my current used Hellcat I thought about buying from Koons. Their “group buy” price is 4 percent under invoice but you have to pay their high doc fee. At least for Hellcats the vast majority of their inventory were completely stripped models with almost zero options. Decent deal if you lived fairly close and that’s what you were looking for.

I just don't think I could buy a HC, Shelby, etc. from a dealer. Here is the crazy thing, in Nevada you don't pay sales tax on private party sales, and sales tax is currently 8.75% here. I have no choice but to look for cars private party. For example, I'm sure @13COBRA does his customers right, so if I wanted that orange 350 (yes, I'm still daydreaming about it) in his showroom I'd go to him, or hit him up for a 500 allocation at slightly over MSRP to cover his costs. No doubt he's the guy. But think about this...a $60K GT350 will cost me $60K if I buy it private party whereas it will cost $65,250 plus doc fees, prep fees, etc. if I buy from a dealer. Doesn't matter that I have the cash, the reason I have the cash is because I'm smart with my money and look for alternatives to save the extra dough.

I know there are advantages to buying at a dealer (you can buy brand new, etc.) but on cars in the HC/Shelby/C8 price range buying a slightly used one from private party makes financial sense in my state. I've never walked into a dealer to buy a high end car but I have purchases daily drivers, family trucksters, etc. that are much less expensive and the tax hit is a little more agreeable.

That's insane. Can't believe the state hasn't tapped into that source of income, yet.

Gaming revenue pays for everything...then COVID hits and the tourism dries up, and our elected officials look around and wonder why we have a budget shortfall. LOL My property taxes on my current house valued at $575K are half of what they were for a $190K home I owned 9 years ago in Ohio. This place is insane. But...if you know the loopholes you gotta take advantage.

We have Towbin Dodge here in Vegas and they are a high volume dealer. Huge lot of cars and they mark them up. They do the same with their prices in service...I won't take my wife's Durango for as much as an oil change there! Same with the Honda dealer near us...high volume, high prices, high prices for service, and you could have a car with 3 miles on it and they will tell you it needs a new Johnson rod and Greg Brady valve if you bring it in for an oil change. LOL And don't get me started on Ford Country (the Ford dealer near us). I needed some work done to my GT when it was still under warranty so I took it there. I told them there are two reasons I will never buy a Mustang from them:

1. They drill license plate holes in the front bumper of all their cars, even Mustangs and Nevada is a state that does not require a front plate.

2. They have two CF GT500's on the lot with an ADM of $40K each. Thieves!

BTW, they no longer drill holes in the Mustang bumpers. I think I finally convinced them. LOL

Bah, anyone with a clue knows how they roll and everyone and their mother gets trained to only look at the out the door price. The people that get the best deals are the ones that stay relentlessly polite and focused on why they are there. If the dealer stays polite and keeps the transaction enjoyable, the deal is there to be found.

Even if a guy went in stone cold not knowing anything about how these guys operate, it wouldn't matter if you stay calm and negotiate. The bottom line is that there is NO DEAL unless the customer says there is.
Please fly to VA and show us how it is done. I have tried to deal with Koons twice, and was not viable. Sheehy, on the other hand, has been great to deal with.

All I can say is a lot of guys are flying in and picking up cars. Buying a car takes the right chemistry between dealer and buyer, no surprise that this dealership isn't for everyone. Heck, my localish Ford dealer had a GT500 and rubbed me the wrong way. They also sold Dodge, didn't even consider them when I ordered my Hellcat. They also called me back a day after I ordered my Hellcat and told me they would accept my deal. Could have canceled the Hellcat, didn't, they hadn't provided a good sales experience, so I wasn't motivated to buy from them.

So, long story short, if the glove doesn't fit, the deal won't either.
