We have a 15 limited, it's nice a lot more room then an Edge. Ours is a little tight with two car seats, other than that and being slow AF I have no other complaints

I will second the Acura MDX. I owned a 2011 and loved it! I traded it in at 186,000 miles at the dealership and it was sold within the week.

I've got a 2014 Explorer. 4WD, flex fuel, N.A. V6. The interior is fine but it's a slug in the motor department. Woefully underpowered for it's almost 7000 pounds. Mileage is meh. I do mostly city driving and get between 19-20 mpg. It's been very reliable though.

Unless you're loaded up with a family of 7 and gear, you're closer 5,000lbs. Regardless, the NA 3.5 certainly is lackluster compared to the EcoBoost.

Treed me.

7k lbs is darn near 3/4T truck territory.

Nonetheless, interesting to hear the NA 3.5 is a dog. I wouldnt have guess that.

We have a Rav4 Prime.

Inside feels like more of a midsize than compact.

0-60 in 5.2 seconds(car and driver) stock and we get low 80s mpg average.
It's a plug in hybrid that gets us 44 electric mile range(max 52) but also has a 14.5 gallon gas tank.
150k warranty on the battery. Electric bill is only abt $20 per month more. You can also drive it without ever plugging it in and get 40mpg.

Its definitely a weird suv, in a good way. Tries to be a jack of all trades and pretty much succeeds.
Just under $40k but you get a $7500 tax rebate.

I had an explorer back in the day too and loved it. But I ****ing hate spending money on gas now. Even just going to pump is annoying to me. Haven't been in almost 8 weeks.

I almost got a telsa but the built quality isnt there and I like the option of a gas motor, plus it's about 16k more.

Needs to be confirmed, but in working on my sister's '08 Edge, I found out that the water pump in the 3.5 fwd applications is behind the timing chain. When it fails, it dumps coolant into the engine. Hers only has 120k miles on it, but it's already needed the cam phasers replaced, probably due to her not getting the oil changed enough. It doesn't get the best mileage and is not particularly quick, but has otherwise been trouble-free.

And I'd never buy anything with Ford's Vista roof; if the tracks aren't kept greased constantly, you WILL break the plastic guides for the glass panel which will necessitate removing half the interior to replace the entire track assembly and runs about 400 bucks each side. I lucked out that the problem is so common that there are aluminum aftermarket guides for this reason, but my fear now is that if these guides or those that hold up the back of the panel bind up, the glass will break instead. Probably not going to be opening the sunroof too much after this.

We have a 2013 Explorer 2WD Limited w/ the n/a 3.5 V6. Bought it in September 2015 with about 33k on it and now we’re at 121k. Been super reliable; have replaced only the front end links and outer tie rod ends on both sides. Pads and rotors like normal, on our 3rd set of tires including the OE ones.

1 major thing to be aware of with this gen Explorer is they have an internal water pump that when it goes bad takes the motor with it. Not sure how prevalent it is but it’s definitely a known issue.

Looking at an Explorer ST as well. The X3 and RAV4 were not on my list but these look nice on the surface.

2011 xlt explorer here with 146,000 miles and no issues. Only two main issues with these and that’s the water pump and the center differential that has “lifetime” oil.
I just did a tune up on mine and plan to run it till it dies.

We just got a Volvo xc40 t5 “r design”and it’s bitchin. We don’t have or want kids so no need for the xc60/90. Good tech, awd, good motor/drivability, and my tweed coats look great in it with this cold weather.

Just test drive the Prime if you get a chance. It really surprised me. I don't feel bad when I romp on the throttle once im awhile either. Having a roomy suv quicker than a late 1990s cobra might not be "fast" for most people but it's still fun. And 70+mpg makes it sweeter.

I don't know why but the Lincoln MKX, '11 and up, is starting to grow on me. I think it's the snobby cousin of the Edge.
