SVTP appears to be faster with a VPN - Is my ISP up to no good?!

This forum is slow via my regular ATT Gigabit Fiber connection. Slow to load initially as if there is a timeout. If I want to edit a post it takes a minute or more to load the dialogue. But other sites are working fine and a speedtest confirms that the internet connection is fine.

So then I connect to a private VPN and all of a sudden SVTP runs like a bat out of hell. Could ATT be blocking traffic to this site or making it frustrating to access it?

It has been deathly slow for me the last few days but I'm on a laptop and have been hooked up to 3 different connections.

Same for me as well. Didn't @SID297 address this before talking about needing to upgrade everything again?

guys don't make things harder than they are. it's the EPA. trying to discourage us from visiting the site, hoping that we dont mod our cars.

Most of the time over the past couple of weeks (or more) it's been very slow. I've got a solid connection with Cox, and my connections with other sites is fast. Is Chrome taking in more data from SVTP pages, than Safari? Because loading pages seems to be a lot faster with Safari. Chrome being a Google product makes me wonder at times. TWICE this week I was browsing with Chrome on two different websites. One was Amazon (I was looking for a cast iron fry pan) and the other was a site selling furniture cleaner for leather. Within a few minutes I got an email from an unknown source advertising.....leather cleaning products. If that wasn't weird enough, my wife then got an email an hour later advertising a cast iron fry pan. o_O

I'm going to only use Safari on my MacBook Pro for the next couple of days and see if loading pages and posting continues to be much fast than with Chrome.

So my theory was wrong. It has been just as slow with other browsers, with ad-blocking and without ad-blocking. It seems to pretty much boil down to what @RedVenom48 said, sometimes it is super fast and at other times its SLLLOOOWWWWWW.

Right now, it's running fast for me.

I'm not an expert in the field, but I have experience in it. VPN companies run a private connection network to move internet traffic. It's connected to the real internet in multiple locations. If the VPN company ties into the real internet near the SVTP servers, they'll get fast response. If they also use a technique called "caching" that reduces bandwidth needs and speed up service, then VPN customers will get faster service than regular users. Site operators can use Cloudflare to accomplish the same thing, only without the privacy component. If SVTP isn't using Cloudflare, then it's not a surprise that their server response rates are highly variable.
