Quick question.... If you had to choose between forging your bottom end or saying screw it and supercharge it. Which would you do?

Been supercharged for over 7 years on stock bottom end. 460/400 at the wheels at 7 psi.

Keep the boost low and timing moderate and you'll be fine if you don't completely rag the car.

My 01 was supercharged for over 20k miles before I sold it last year. Made 445/407. It was a blast.

Just be reasonable with the boost level, timing and your foot. If you are shooting for more then 450rwhp then forge it. Frankly, if that is the route you are going, you might want to sell it and go for a 03/04 Cobra, Coyote car or 07+ GT500. Lots of options.

I would also suggest:

Getting a compression test done prior to supercharging to make sure your motor is healthy.

Strict maintenance such as oil changes and spark plugs.

Good gas

Intercooler is always great insurance to a degree. Regardless of boost level and power, heat is a killer.

Of course a nice safe tune.

There's still the luck of the draw. I don't remember the mileage, but I had a D1 at 12psi I think and killed a piston getting on the freeway. I wasn't hard on it or anything. Makes for a lame story.

4.6 stock rods are chicken bones.

I'd at the very least throw in some cheap late model Coyote rods.
