WAP block over iron block?

I’m going to be building a forged 4.6, power goals are 800-900rwhp.

What’s today’s thoughts on a WAP block? Is it good for a high HP build or is the iron block better at that level?

Not really trying to source a teksid as I already own the WAP and iron block.

WAP should be fine for that power level. I would tend to always suggest a Teksid...but I don't know of the WAP being a "bad" block or having a ton of shortcomings. I do however know that the iron block is on borrowed time when pushed much harder than 1k whp...

Just make sure you've got a solid rotating assembly, use ARP hardware with the block and head studs and send it!

I'm no expert, but I have a spare WAP that I'll be building as a spare or for another project..

I'm never going to outgrow that block with anything I can throw at it. 800-900 will be no problem for it.

Thank you guys, I searched and I have researched in the past, all long discussions stop at around 2012-13 so I figured there would be different thoughts about it now.

I have a complete 2003 Mach one engine with forged crank, I have Manley rods with ARP 2000 hardware, what pistons are recommended nowadays?

It will be a twin turbo set up on E85.

Many big name shops prefer WAP over Teksid. I am no expert but many nice cars have WAP.

Wrong WAP. They prefer the WAP that is also the "aluminator" or also known as the nemak. The Mach/Cobra WAP is considered a good block but the worst alum block.

People always make the claim the old WAP block is the worst or should be your last choice but I have yet to see anyone actually prove it.

There was a guy on Modfords that supposedly built engines for a living that claimed you would split the old WAP above 500. But just like all the rest never provided a shred of proof.

I think people hate one it because nobody really pushed it to really see where the repeated failure point was at xxxx power.

Honestly I think its a good block and will be fine for most guys. I wouldn't have a problem pushing one to 800 with the proper hardware.

The block from a design stand point is the worst designed.

The Teksid has been proven at 3k hp levels and the nemak nearly as much. So why bother going with anything else? There are some WAP failures above 1k especially rounding issues.

Simple, because not everyone needs a block that can handle 3000 hp for a build.

The WAP block is just fine for most people and most builds. If your goals are north of 1k then obviously you should make better choice.

That's all anyone has said?

This article spawned an entire new wave of "b-heads are the best" trolls. As mentioned above a 3k hp engine and a street engine are wildly different and the conversations from this article don't apply to almost anyone's car on here.

Mihovetz is the best in the business but this article has been perverted by the readers.
