IATs Terminated |VMP's 3100 TVS Supercharger and Intercooler for 2003-04 SVT Cobra Mustangs

For nearly twenty years the SVT Cobra Terminator has roamed the streets; dispatching its challengers without pity, remorse, or fear. It is a machine designed for a single purpose, to terminate the competition. Two decades later, there’s still nothing quite like the 2003-04 Cobra. The unending march of technological progress has produced cars that are faster and more powerful, but at the cost of the soul which made the Terminator so special. Owners of these cars know exactly what I’m talking about.

Look at that wide open inlet. VMP has increased the pre-rotor intake volume about as much as the physical limitations of the blower package will allow.


However, the advances in technology that have benefited newer Mustang models can also be used to enhance the already capable Terminator platform. VMP Performance has long provided TVS supercharger upgrades to the Ford community, and over the years has released several blower models for the Terminator. For 2021 VMP is preparing to launch their most powerful Terminator offering yet, one based on the new Eaton 3100 TVS rotor pack.

The transition to the rotors has been massaged to produce the least amount of restriction possible.


Like all the new VMP 3100 Superchargers, this one is indistinguishable from its 2650 based predecessors. That is because VMP designed their 2650 blower cases in such a way that allowed them to merely change their machining process to allow the existing castings to accept the larger 3100 rotors. Externally, the VMP 3100 and 2650 are essentially identical. This means you could very well see VMP 3100 equipped Terminators infiltrate the ranks of cars with smaller displacement blowers, and lay waste to them.

It can't really be seen here, but a ramp has been designed into the case to smooth the transition of the boosted air charge into the intercooler core.


But VMP wasn’t satisfied with just creating a new supercharger option for the Terminator market, they also addressed the factory intercooler’s shortcomings by creating a completely redesigned unit. VMP’s Terminator Intercooler Core is larger and more efficient in essentially every way. In fact, pushing the plates and fins out farther the VMP unit eliminates a power robbing dead zone inherent in the stock core’s design. The combination of VMP’s 3100 Supercharger and their upgraded intercooler core should be appreciated by the Terminator community. Those parts represent a large investment of resources by one of the most successful late model Ford performance companies out there. This is a showing of faith in an aging platform you don’t see all that often. IMO, the Terminator is the last true muscle car. It was built before electronic nannies softened all the hard edges on new performance cars. It can’t be bargained with, it can’t be reasoned with, and it will not stop, ever, until you let up. And if you thought the Terminator was an unstoppable killing machine before, you should try one equipped with a VMP 3100 TVS Supercharger and Intercooler combo.

It's plainly obvious that the VMP Terminator intercooler core is a massive upgrade over the factory unit.

The VMP unit is larger in every dimension that counts. Cooling technology has advanced greatly in the last 20+ years.

More water in and more water out. The ports on the VMP intercooler are capable of much more flow than the stock ones.

The increased number of plates and much greater surface area of the VMP core is plainly obvious from this angle.

If you need a better idea of how much larger the water ports are on VMP's Terminator intercooler core, these water manifold adapters should seal the deal.

No mention of actual testing of IAT’s though.
Can’t say “terminated” and not post data.
My opinion, all top mount blowers are going to have high Iat’s. I just think it’s part of the game

No, my DOB Spec R on my 3.4 whipple 4.6 3V is ridiculously good. This data was from a fully warmed up car with a few test hits. No ice. 19 psi around 750 RWHP. After 2 or 3 pulls it would be around 106F. At 26 psi it bumped up to around 112F

Seems not to be something easily achieved on a GT500 atleast.
Factory intercooler on 07-12 is ok, the rest of the system is garbage. Larger heat exchanger and upgraded pump is necessary. The Pierberg pump from the 13-14 is VASTLY superior than the 07-12 factory Bosch and its not even close. A larger external pump mounted to a trunk ice tank would be better, but that seems to be a huge PITA.

The 07-12 intercooler is a step behind the 13-14 factory intercooler, but I wouldnt call it inadequate, especially with the pump and HE upgraded.

Bigger is better. The 2.3 TVS punched WELL above its weight class. Its biggest issue IMO was the need to spin the hell out of it to get higher boost pressure. That generated heat, but nothing like the factory 07-12 M122. We saw how dramatic of a performance increase the 2650 rotor pack was over the 2300, so much so that its hitting 1000rwhp in the 2020 GT500. That was only a 350cc increase. The 3100 is adding another 450cc. I also believe the 3100 rotor pack has the rotors more optimized as well.

At that point, the only thing holding you back is the iron block.

I am talking built cars. Everyone has HE’s now adays and bigger pumps.
Everyone has bigger blowers too.
It’s funny it seems my friends with the 2650’s have more iat issues than my overspun 2300
 
@biminiLX How are your IATs on the 2650?
Excellent, but I have an ice tank and 1” lines.
I posted in the other VMP intercooler thread, but I received one of the first intercooler brick upgrades with 1” lines from Justin (I pay, not given) and this year the entire intercooler system will be 1” and I’ll get you harder data.
For now, my data is similar to Weather Man, but on a cooler day with ice in the tank I’m under 100* IAT2 at the stripe on a max pullied 3R (2.4/15%).
It actually drops going down track.
I’ll see if I can post some HPT datalog screen shots on here later but I’m kinda saving my effort for once the new VMP brick and full 1” cooler system is installed.
Ideally it’ll be under a 3.1 rotor pack :)
