Has anyone followed the release stats on this vehicle? Looks like it will possibly start turning high performance heads into electric.

I’m keeping an eye on that as with a long commute it would make sense to go electric and that sounds like a blast. On the other hand I’m debating a E
36s Benz as it’s the same price point and it may be the last gas powered V8 turbo daily I buy if the segment moves all electric in years to come

It will be interesting to see how things play out. I'm sure when it first gets into peoples hands we will see a few Youtube videos of it at the track or on the street beating up on some cars just like we did when people got their hands on a Tesla with Ludicrous mode - then the hype will die down. The same thing happened when the GT500, C8, Demon, Redeye, etc. came out.

It's priced at $139,990, so no, I don't see a ton of car guys buying these just like I don't see a ton of C7ZR1's or any other car that is in that price bracket driving around regularly.

The problem with Teslas (or any electric car that is available at this point) is that outside of going fast in a straight line they are boring. The Model S Performance does 0-60 in 2.3 seconds while the GT500 is advertised as mid 3s and the base C8 is 2.9; I see way more excitement over the GT500 and C8 than the Model S Performance despite being slower. Magazine times aren't everything to all car enthusiasts.

What will be interesting is when the technology gets affordable to more people. I still see people wanting the sounds, vibration, and mechanical feeling of a non electric car - at least until we get a generation that knows nothing but electric cars.

And it will happen. I make no bones about it, Ive got no interest in all electric. Owned a Hybrid and worked for a car line fixing Hybrids for over a decade so Im not just some no electric shill. But there will come a time when a future generation as a whole looks at gas stations and filling with hydrocarbon liquid fuel as incredible old fashioned.

This is just like when cassette and vinyl made way for CDs, the CDs made way for MP3 and streaming. But I predict that some of our kid's generation will still be crazed over internal combustion engines. Just like there is a comparatively small following for vinyl, there will be a small following for gas/ethanol engines.

Some may never latch on to electric once they discover the incredible amounts of environmental pollution their manufacture, repair and use cause. Most, like our current generation, wont care about the facts. But I digress.

There has to be a catch
Can the police shut down your electric car if they want to?

People still ride horses, ice motorsports will continue but will slide into the realm of hobbies for the rich.

Have you ever driven one? My Model 3 is one of the most fun vehicles I’ve owned. The instant silent torque is intoxicating and a blast.

I agree!!!! Just got my wife a model 3 four days ago....holy shit!!! We drove it 600 miles this weekend. Regret not getting one earlier. Went with a lease. For less than 500 bucks a month, worth every penny to us.

A friend has one with the downloadable performance upgrade and that little ****er is quick. I hate to admit to but I kind of like it. The interior is odd and fit/finish of the exterior blows for a 50k+ car

I really wasn't a fan of the Model 3 I test drove.

The acceleration was a blast, and the torque vectoring was impressive, but it only took a few miles for me to get really bored with it.

Whats the value of one of these things at 7 years? Zero or less than zero because of battery disposal?

No, don’t forget Elon says they’ll go up in value with OTA updates plus you’ll earn money sending it out as a COVID, er, Robo taxi. And the Tesla Loons lap it up.

I have not driven one and I am sure the instant torque would be a ton of fun and blow the doors of my 24 year old Cobra. Like I said, speed is just one piece of the puzzle for what makes a performance car enjoyable though. There are definitely people who's #1 priority is being the fastest guy around or just having a car that slams them into the seat whether they're racing anyone or not. For them, I'm sure the instant torque checks the box.

Is the Tesla going to put a smile on my face when I turn it on and and it starts rumbling?
How about the gratification of a perfect downshift when I'm out driving on the curvy back roads?
Am I going to look back at it in a parking lot when I'm walking away because I like how it looks?

The answer to all of these FOR ME is no. It doesn't rumble to life, there isn't a 3rd pedal, and the looks don't do it for me. For someone else, maybe they don't like hearing a cars exhaust, could care less about shifting on their own because a computer is faster, and think it looks great - all of that plus the instant torque spells a winner, which is great for them.

My brother has a 2019 Model 3 and loves it. He describes it as intoxicating just like you do. My brother is completely sold on all-electric after having owned a Tesla Model 3. However, he said he won't buy another one after his lease is up unless they work on the design. It's too bland for him. There are quite a few Tesla 3s in my area. The Model S is kind of rare here. One thing is certain, he won't buy another gasoline powered car. He is totally in on all-electric.

This Plaid version is killer. 0-60 in under 2 seconds. If my brother saw this one he'd probably gasp. But the price tag is also a killer. $143K! I like the front end styling on the S models.
