'21 CFTP Lead

I just got a lead on a '21 CFTP car that I can order so my head is spinning right now...I've always planned on getting the base car - mostly for the following reasons:

1) I have been concerned with driving around with the CF wheels and damaging/cracking them if I accidentally hit a pothole, etc. and the ridiculous replacement cost.
2) CF wing - I'm not sure if this piece has any anti-theft features or if it could be easily removed by some douche bag
3) $18,500 package cost

I will likely never race the car at any track event. I will use the car to cruise around in on nice days, date nights with the wife, cars and coffee events, etc. So, I know I don't "need" the CFTP and never really considered it as I never imagined getting a Golden Ticket opportunity. But here we are!

I would really appreciate any insight to 1) and 2) above. Thank you!

If you're not going to track it, it's a waste. Even if you're planning on tracking it, for $18,500 you can equip a base one better than a CFTP from the factory.

Pass. You'll hate driving it on the street anyways, with the stiff suspension.

Can you afford to also get the non carbon fiber wheels? Save the Carbon set for special occasions.

03/04 Cobra's came with reverse torx screw for the running horse emblem, so I'm sure the GT500 has something similar to deter theft.

@13COBRA Is spot on. You sound like me, I'm not a road course guy and if I ever do go I'm not looking to set lap records but just have fun with it. And I definitely don't want to have the wheels get ruined by a pothole. Get a base car. I'm planning on getting one in about 14-months.

If the lead is at sticker, I’d go with a CFTP in a heartbeat. If not, I’d find a base and make it my own.

Besides, everyone at the C&C will love the carbon parts, I’ve witnessed this firsthand with the lady’s pops and his ZR1.

That's the thing...this CFTP is at sticker. Can't stop thinking about it!
No brainer IMO, unless you will need anxiety meds for the wheels and wing lol.

I went through this with my 350, wanted the R the whole time. It was less functional for me and i knew it, didn’t matter. So next car is a ZL1 and did i need the 1LE package? Hell no, just wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice and I’m glad I didn’t. And this is a rough riding sumbitch...i love it

I hope you don't live anywhere with potholes or tall speed bumps.
If you are only buying the car to impress your friends or gawkers, spend as much as you can afford. If you are buying this for yourself, buy what you want, not what someone else wants.

I was in a similar situation back in summer of 2019

I was offered a 350R for $500 over invoice from my local dealer.
Could I afford it? Yes, and I regularly track my cars.
But the more I thought about it, I was worried about damaging the CF wheels. Ok I’ll buy another set of “regular” wheels.
Ok, I want the rear seat delete, but I’d be taking it out for a Watson roll bar and didn’t want to cut it up.

so for the extra $14,000 for the R, I’d be taking off the parts I’m paying for.

I ended up with a regular GT350, for $500 over invoice, with the options I wanted, took the back seats out and sold them, and had a roll bar installed with a fitted seat delete that goes with it.
And I picked up a second set of regular GT350 wheels and tires for $2000 for track events.

The CFTP really does not have a rough ride, I have even changed the springs because the front was to high, looked like they forgot to lower it. In a mustang the back seat is not usable except for someone with no legs. I love the car and feel as if it was the best choice for me. I have cracked a GT350R wheel, on track, hole at 90+, it happens. This would bend a normal light weight wheel as well. At MSRP get track Pack.

Man,....if you can afford it, GET IT!!! Whether you're going to track it or not!
You'll kick yourself in the ass later on if you pass on it. You only live once man. If you can afford it, I would go for it.

In all the years I have been driving, I only ever curbed a rim once and that was one of my front rims on the 04 Cobra at a 7-11...and was just sick about it for a long time after that. I tried to get as close as I could to the curb as the road was narrow. So for me, I wouldn't be getting the CF rims. However, the CFTP will help down the road - should you ever sell the car.

Great advice as usual from the SVTP members. Really appreciate the input.

Does anyone know if there are any anti-theft mechanisms built into the CF wing?

Less than two minutes with the right size hex key and that wing is long gone. Four socket headed cap screws and kiss that baby good bye.

Here in Idaho we call it a gun. I crossed the country with mine and did not have it lifted. I also arrived late and left early. Do you not have a garage? If not, I would get that first.
