Looking to get into a stock automatic coyote car to daily. I drove the car posted below and it drives very nice but mileage is high. Prices seem high on both s197 and s550 cars in my area. About what should I pay for one of these used with say 75k and up miles. It will just be a stock daily driver.
CarGurus - 2016 Ford Mustang GT Premium Coupe RWD - $21,495

It's a decent price as long as it hasn't smacked up. The car is pretty much bullet proof. $3-4k more gets you a lot less miles.

Looked at a 15 premium magnetic metallic. Stock, two owners, 50k miles at a dealership 40 minutes from me. Nice car, but paint on the hood is bubbling up. We agree on a price that includes fixing the hood. I drive back home and get a tellers check for the agreed amount. Hand him the check and he leaves his office, comes back and it’s “ohh sorry no deal, since the hood needs painted we need an extra 700”. I got my check and left. Man I absolutely hate looking for a car lol.

Why did the hood bubble? Was it hit or was there a turbo there? I think you should buy a 2014 GT convertible with a S/C on it for $23k, :D

Pretty sure the paint issue is common on all mustangs since the S197. The car appears to be stock but you never know these days. It’s a Texas car soo...

If it has an aluminum hood Ford has issues with the corrosion under the paint. We have had many police explorers that have had to get the hoods repainted.

Solid cars. Those engines were good to about 800rwhp. Unless there is obvious abnormal engine or transmission noise, I wouldn't worry too much.

If it's salty where you live, and you daily it, watch out for rust! Ford sucks in the rust proofing department. 2019 Explorers look horrible underneath, even after just one winter

I’ll keep that in mind. The car I’m looking at is a two owner Texas car. I am going to request to have the car put on a lift so I can look for any leaks and see what all has been done to the exhaust.

Yep, I've had several vehicles that had this issue. A Ranger, two Expeditions, and my 2011 Mustang. Crazy to think that they STILL don't have it figured out and now are doing entire trucks in aluminum. Hopefully my F150 doesn't lose all its paint at some point!

My 04 150 had that issue on the hood Steve.

<----- Born and raise in Chicagoland.

My advice, find a good carwash that rinses underneath. Once a week when there is detectable salt on the roads. Every other day during/just after a fresh snow when IDOT and local plow companies dump and spread salt. Daily until salt slushies are gone is best if you care about not having a complete rustbucket in 3 years.

Its an uphill battle. But a 16 GT A6 Mustang is going to last you a long time stock if the beating they take boosted is any indication. Solid cars.

I guess I'm lucky, Out of my '12 GT, '14 GT, '15 Transit Connect, '16 F150, & my '19 F150 only my '16 F150 needed the hood to be wet sanded. Though the body gaps on the '16 were brutal.

Still atrocious on 2020 and 2021 F series, but especially bad on SuperCabs. I cant tell you how many new F-150s and 250s come in and the cut lines on the doors just do NOT line up. Some have obvious alignment issues as some doors pop on opening and you have to slam em closed. Dealer says nothing they can do. The Crew Cabs are a lot better, but the beds are usually always misaligned.

Granted these are special order base trim levles for a gov agency, so they might have looser QC... but its not acceptable to me. Ill probably end up ordering a truck to my specs when the time comes... but F me in the A if Ill take delivery on a truck with poor panel gaps.

It's funny you said that. The '16 I had the issues with was an XLT, My dads '16 King Ranch & the my '19 Platinum had zero issues. Does Ford not give AF about the lower levels? But my '15 TC is an XLT and it doesn't have any problems and come to think about it neither does my sons '17 F150 STX. And that's a base SC.

My hope is that they see its a gov agency so they use parts that arent meeting the cut for retail customer builds and adjusting the QC benchmarks accordingly.

If thats the case I get it, but I dont like it even if its government vehicles. All builds should meet the same standards.

I’ve heard of a lot of a/c issues with these cars? Looks like a nightmare job to repair. I can deal with most things but I have to have cold a/c.

Cool cool car... The '16 is the first year for Sync3 if I recall, and (for me) that is a huge plus. Used it for a week and absolutely loved it. Such great tech.

HP aside, my understanding is that '18 had a significant clutch upgrade that made the car much more enjoyable to drive. Though I do see a marked difference in price '17 and below to the '18+ cars.

Perhaps consider holding out to purchase a PP1 car, and Ford has great intake packages to increase the HP reliably.

Oh... maybe somebody can chime in here... are the non AC seats more comfortable than the AC ones? Can you feel the AC guts, as a "harder" seat surface?

Enjoy the search!
