Random topic but curious to get some feedback on something that is very subjective. My mattress is easily 15-20 years old and I wake up like I got my ass kicked every morning so thinking of looking for a new mattress this weekend. Have a friend who swears by their Purple mattress, not sold yet have to check one out and they are expensive depending on what you get.

Anybody have a mattress they really like? Anyone in the industry?

I've heard good things about the purple mattresses but yeah they are pretty pricey. Our current bed was a bed in a box ordered off amazon. I can't recall the brand off the top of my head, either ashley furniture or serta. I was skeptical but it was cheap enough that if I hated it I would donate it or something and move on to something else. It was very firm the first week or so but since then I absolutely love it. Comfortable as hell and was around $400 for the king size.

Not to mention you can't beat free 2 day shipping and it was waiting on my door step when I get home. I hate moving mattresses but the box made it easy and compact to get inside.

Whatever you do Id look for something with a trial/return period and make damned sure it's protected so you aren't stuck with it because of a stain or something. The last time we bought a mattress we found some places that had demos of the cloud mattress etc... worth checking around. Buy the best one you can afford

my wife and i recently (4 months ago) purchased a new mattress and i was all over the spectrum.. We checked out Sleep Number and Personal Comfort, but if you go to their Facebook pages, you'll see what most people think about them. in the end what we did was purchase a King Purple 3 (with a discount code) and got a Leggit and Platt adjustible bed frame from Amazon.. in the end i saved about $1500

We have a Purple and a couple Tempur-pedic, all purchased at the same time about 3 years ago. The Purple is a king and is in our master - it's a great mattress. Both options are pricey, but I prefer the Purple because it's a good mix of support and softness. With the Purple sheets, it feels like heaven (at least until the sheets are washed a lot of times and lose some of that soft silkiness). The Purple is the most comfortable mattress I've tried, anywhere, and the occasional back pain I used to get with my old mattress is nonexistent.

Just had a Purple Level 2.

I thought it was okay, my wife hated it.

Trade it back in for a Stearns and Foster Estate pillow top. Amazing bed that we both love. Hand made in Arizona.

I feel the bed in the box crap is all hype.

We went to Macys and spent a few hours laying on different beds including the purple. I wasn't impressed with the purple for the price, it felt odd to me when laying on it. We left without making a real decision.

We ended up buying a tuft and needle mint off a recommendation from some friends. It was super comfortable but for a bigger guy, 6'2" ~250, it was not supportive enough and I would just sink into it. I'd fall asleep fine but wake up with major back issues. "Donated" that one to my sister and got a refund.

We replaced that with a Titan by Brooklyn bedding. It is built for bigger people with denser foam and thicker springs. It's supports me fine and I sleep much better on it.

My question is, firm or plush? I have a firm mattress and I can't stand it. I feel like I can never get comfortable and it gives me sore shoulders but then I hear plush mattresses are bad for the back. I don't have a bad back but I don't want to acquire one because of a mattress.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. One I have now you sink into but that mostly cause its shot. But the cushion on top in shot so feels like firm.

About to go test out a Purple before the store closes to rule that out or not.

Don't go to Mattress Firm. That's all I can say. I went through them at the start of the pandemic and it was comical how shitty their sales people are. Price kept dropping every 5 minutes as I refused to buy, even a "because I like you discount" and also a "I shouldn't do this and can get in trouble for it, but here's my employee pricing." discount. BUT those were only if I paid on the spot or at least a $50 deposit. I was going to buy something anyway, so fine, $50 down. I went home, google the model number and it's $250 cheaper ON THEIR WEBSITE! So I order it online, and the next day call to cancel the in person order and get my $50 back. They actually tried to make me feel bad about cancelling and claimed, "The website can change at any moment, we don't know what promotions they will have and now this cancelation looks bad on our store." It took them over 2 weeks to process my $50 refund. Frustrated at how shitty they are, I noted their "price match guarantee" on their site, if the price drops, they refund you the difference. I left my mattress open in a new tab and F5ed it from time to time. Sure enough, I caught some sale like 2-3 weeks later and it was now $275 cheaper. Ready for more of their BS, I took like 5-10 screen shots of the online banner showing the sale, the price, the price of it in my cart, etc. I called up corporate, was told I would need proof (I knew it), and I emailed all the screenshots. Sure enough they refunded me $275.

That sounds like a nightmare. I'll probably order direct if I go that route. Just a place to test it. I saw Amazon too but apparently that makes warranty and exchange hard.
