The next-gen version of the Mustang won’t go into production until December of 2028. And there could be a good reason for the long wait. Autoforecast Solutions reports the standard Mustang is going fully electric as well. And it sounds like that will be the only powertrain setup. It’s also important to note the next-gen Mustang will be made at Ford’s Flat Rock, Michigan plant. There hasn’t been a single other EV announced for that facility. So, it’s also going to take extra time to tool it up for electrics.

3 states have already signed on to ban sales of new combustion engine vehicles by 2035. More will follow I'm sure.

It will happen in a snap.. just like smartphones, and the internet.
Automation should be fully scaled in by then too... so you'll bever have to worry about driving again.

A few accidents later and "self driving" cars will be outlawed. And by self driving i mean a human behind the wheel.

Except for closed course tracks and drive parks.
Millennials and gen Z couldn't care less... they hate cars anyway... scary and dangerous.

That would be an unfortunate decision for Ford. Of course, it's nothing more than virtue signaling at this point. If it is, **** Ford.
This is a pretty good decision for Ford. In 5 years, 40% of the vehicles on the market will be electric vehicles.

That said, if you want to buy a brand new manual high performance car, now is the time because in the future they will be going away.

Not so sure on the decision - more electric CUV's, yes. A performance car... not so sure. Maybe, but Tesla seems to already be close to the top end on the performance side. I guess they could compete on cost and I guess looks...

Not sure why everyone dreads this inevitability. I'm no environmentalist, but the performance that we see coming from electric cars cannot be denied.

And the aftermarket will adapt. Doesn't seem like it, but there will be just as much of an opportunity to screw up our cars then as there is now.

Will be interesting to see what it does to gas prices. I suspect that they will go down as demand slowly dwindles, but then go high as infrastructure goes away.

True. My question though is why would I get an electric Mustang when I could get a four door sedan with the same performance. Ok, maybe the Mustang would go 10.2 instead of 10.4 in the quarter. Why would anyone buy that beyond a very small niche market? Now, I have and would consider buying an IC Mustang for the experience. Same reason I have a manual instead of an automatic - sure the automatic will be faster, but...

Ford isn't that stupid. It's going to determine where there's a market and go for that.

So, if there's a market for a 2-door sports car that out-performs sedans, it will design/sell as such (electric or not).

If no market exists, it goes away.

The point of the thread and the linked article was that they have already determined that there will be a market. My point is that I am not so sure. Do automakers ever make bad decisions...? Lol

Whats all the hate for the electric vehicles?

Reminds me of when ford tossed out the old 5.0 and went to the 4.6

I have absolutely no objection at all to having an electric 8 second daily driver.

doubtful, right now the number of vehicles with autonomous driving are going up and yet claim volume is staying the same or slightly dipping.

the issue from an accident perspective still comes higher from distracted drivers behind the wheel.
