SCT X4 tuner question

I had a tuner use my SCT X4 when he tuned my car and I can see his final tune in my SCT. What I want to know is can I pull that tune from the tuner and save it on a PC? I have always in the past pulled tunes into the tuner but never tried to save a tune from the tuner to a PC other than the stock tune but that has a unique process built into the tuner. I'm afraid to experiment without knowing the answer since I don't want to lose this tune.

You'll need to get a copy of the tune from the guy that did the calibration if you want to save it to your computer.

Thanks...I was afraid that would be the answer.
Since I am getting one more tune this summer I will make sure I give him a usb drive this time.

I believe on the X4 you can use the SCT flash software and store several tunes on the device if it is anything like my BDX.

You can store quite a few tunes on the device, but they recommend you have back ups if you ever do a firmware update.

Yes, your tuner can email you tunes or put them in the cloud and you can store them in the software on your computer. I wasn't clear on that point.

On my X4 I have done a lot of firmware upgrades and my tunes stayed on the device if I recall. But the one thing you are supposed to do is reflash your vehicle back to stock before the upgrade, upgrade your SCT, and then pull the stock file back into your device and then you can save it on a PC. (Then you can put your upgraded tune back on.) I once said (##it) and upgraded my device without putting the stock file on my car first. I then later put the stock file on my car afterwards and pulled it back into the device and tried to save it on my PC. It pulled into the device fine but when I save it it tells me that there are errors and review to the log - not a fluk---does it every time I try it. Car seems to work even with stock file reloaded on the car but I believe it is corrupted somewhere and it probably happened because I did follow their warning notice. I try to have all my files backed up on PCs. I have asked SCT for the stock file for my Vin if they can get it.

Some firmware updates are more extensive than others. Many updates are only updating the canned tune files. If your tunes are not there and you don't have copies, you'll be starting from scratch. I've not had an issue with the x4, but I've bricked at least 3 x3s.

Theres no need to update an xcal

the only way to have an actual backup copy of your tune is to read it out the ecu using a usb cable
details- Getting Started / EFIDynoTuning

anyone with sct software can send you a stock tune file no problem but if you need the modified calibration tag to remain set to stock the sct device won't be able to do it. You can do it though using a usb cable as mentioned above.
