Bullitt Project making Progress

Where mine is right now. Dont want to spring for paint till everything is completely sorted and holds together for a little. V6 body with peeling clear coat making over 700whp. Cams kinda give it away at the lights though.

Plus for me its all about the feel not the looks. Would like to do it up nice at some point though.

I have a black Bullitt in the middle of an overhaul right now too, glad to see you rescued this one.

Well, I got the Bullitt motor on an engine stand and tore into it today.

Oil pickup all gummed up and some metal shavings...



I also started finding chunks of plastic from the chain guides everywhere. When I pulled the timing cover, the passenger side fixed chain guide was completely gone. There wasn't anything left on the block but the bolts. The pivoting chain guide and tensioner were pretty bad.


The tensioner was ground down...




The remaining chain guide worn all the way through the plastic and a lot of the metal...



The trigger wheel was also marred up but the teeth looked undamaged. I pulled the heads and didn't see any damage to the valves or pistons, so I'm thinking the chain never skipped on the sprockets. I'm not sure how much damage I didn't detect on first look, but the metal shavings all seem to be from the tensioner and chain guide.

I've made the decision to get the 2v back up and running. The plan now is full exhaust, cams and replace the timing components.

UPS man brought me some goodies for the Bullitt today...

While I'm not able to spend much money, I figured I'd invest a little effort into the Bullitt. I decided to polish the intake manifold. I'm not sure if I'll do the upper and lower or just the upper. It's going to take many hours of work, but this is the result of the first day of hand sanding, filing and dremel wheel sanding.

It should look really good when you finish the polishing, and IMO well worth the effort.

Ugh! That a high hill to climb! It'll look great when it's done though.

Dam I miss my bullitt I had 5125.

Progress is slow...

Progress might be slow, but it's looking really good!

I like the smooth finish a lot better. The fins are a challenger, but I'm sure the final product is going to look really good!

Another day of sitting on the couch polishing...

I think I finally found some affordable Dremel attachments to hit the areas that are really hard to reach.
I really enjoy polishing metal, I've done it a lot on bicycle and motorcycle parts in the past, but this is the most challenging part I've polished.

Many hours. I've not been keeping track, but I've been putting on Game of Thrones while I polish since it's something I've already watched and I don't care if I miss anything. I'm on season 4.
