Seems like a simple on/off switch would work or perhaps a "Proximity Circuit" that only activates the FOB when 20 feet from the vehicle!!

This isn't needed. All you have to do is hold down the lock button and hit unlock twice. That will turn the fob off. At least for a tacoma sure others have a similar process.

Hmmm, I'll have to see if my FOB can be turned off like that.
