Alright, my engine, trans, clutch, and IRS are all built with the best and by the best out there. Now for this winters final list for my 03 Cobra , it’s the fuel system, Longtubes, and the KB 2.2. I bought one used, sent it out to Carlos at KB and they did a complete overhaul front to back including snout upgrade. I know , i know they get hot but doesn’t every blower? I’ve always wanted this setup for years but between building a home, starting a family, and savings plans for them all it wasn’t doable. Well over the last 3 years i can now play a little at age 45 and now here’s where we are . I know there’s been new Whipples, VMP’s , etc but this is what I’ve always wanted. 600 hp will be plenty for me or a little more is always ok lol. With all that being said, what can you fellow Kenne Bell owners give me for advice? It’s a redone 2.2 with a 3” pulley ( stock lower) . Anything to watch out for ? How have your 2.2’s held up??? Any experienced info would be appreciated. Thank you guys

They get hot. Real Hot. Heat Causes Detonation. Detonation causes tears. If you want 600WHP you will be running 19-21psi which is the ragged edge of explosive tears. You should be looking at going e85 to help keep those temps down and prevent detonation. These cars don't have knock sensors - you don't want detonation.

You will be just fine. Remember, at one point it was just the KB2.2 or a 140Ax Whipple, from Ford racing. 18psi 560-590 horsepower. The reason these blowers got warm was first gen twin screw design. The inlet on the KB2.2 was notoriously choked. But new processes of design, and manufacturing made better cases, and rotor design. Perfecting the flow and hogging out the inlets helped create the great blowers we have today. If your happy with these power figures, than you are on your way to a great performing Cobra.

It still amazes me the power the people are getting from these cars. There are still blowers being released. It is a testament to the robust performance Ford delivered on these Cobras.

What fuel? Corbic's right; E85 would make for nice peace of mind and probably net a few more hp. Been considering it myself. I run 93 with a splash of Torco to help me sleep at night. Zero issues thus far.

As far as heat, as long as you're not hot lapping the thing you should be fine. She does get toasty and the heat soak gets noticeable, but I've only run into this during spirited car cruises.

E85 will net more than just a few.....and much more low n mid range TQ. Especially with one of those patented 04sleeper corn brew tunes. Send it! Lol

A larger intercooler tank will only somewhat help. Remember the water flows from the tank to the lower cooler under the blower which gets extremely hot. You need to constantly draining it and filling it with ice to get those iats down. It’s more so most beneficial for the race track. Don’t get me wrong they work, but just don’t think you’re going to be making substantial differences by just running around town with a bigger tank.

I, like you, only wanted a 2.2 because of everything I’ve seen over the years. A KB 2.2 car was king. I eventually got rid of mine because technology has come such a long way over the years. But I will say it was damn loud and screamed like a mofo
