so i have the opportunity to sell my stock t56 that’s stock for $2,000 and buy a magnum for $3,000. my car has a built teksid / cg fab single 76/87 borg and will be around 800-900rwtq. am i better off building my t56 or stepping into the magnum?

Never had a regular T56 but have zero complaints about my magnum besides its a bit of a tight fit.
Makes it a little harder to line up on your back on stands.

grannas racing has some in-depth youtube videos that compare the two (their supras run 7's with them)

bottom line tho is the magnum has better internals and is a superior transmission for high power setups

Well I bought the Magnum haha

1st 2.66
2nd 1.78
3rd 1.30
4th 1:1
5th .80
6th .63

This will mimic the stock gear ratios IIRC. Total out of pocket is going be $1000 going to magnum so I'm very happy vs. building the existing unit for $1500-2k

There is a little more to it though. Might need to mod you're driveshaft depending on what you have (local shop did mine for like $150 to cut, weld and rebalance). I came from a different transmission, I had a little more to do, your x-member should work. It's not exactly direct replacement but not hard if you know what you're doing. Judging by your build you or who ever built it should be able to do it no problem.

yes you are 100% correct! i know i have to do slight clearance work and the driveshaft shortened or buy the shorter yoke

Different yoke all together. Spline count is different from stock T56. I used a Sonnax part and it is a stout piece. But yes needs to be shortened too, close to 1.5". Magnum is a great upgrade and definitely worth it.
