I need to top off my rear differential fluid so I can drive it so it can be resealed...can I fill it up without removing anything other than the bolt where you refill at?
Thanks

Nothing needs to be removed but if I recall, you need to snake a hose up there. Been quite a few years

You must be leaking really bad or for a long time to need to top it off?

Thanks..its slowly been leaking ...I have a piece of cardboard underneath the car and it's all wet ...I guess it's possible I can make it 30 miles...I would know if it's too low because I hear clunks coming from the back right?

You need a bottle pump, shouldn't be too hard to find one locally.

Or a transfer pump. One that you can suck up the rear diff fluid from the bottle, move the hose to the fill inlet, and then discharge the fluid into the rear diff.

Back when I had an S197 I filled the diff by running a 5 foot or so length of plastic tubing from the fill hole across to the left wheel well then up to a funnel that I taped to the jack handle. Neat, tidy and easy - no pumping required.

That's exactly what I do. I have an antique Coleman lantern copper funnel that fits the plastic tube perfectly. It's slow, but effective.

If your looking where to find a bottle pump, boat stores will have them, as thats how you fill a boats lower unit.

Just an regular orange automotive siphon pump that you can get at any store will do fine. They are $6-14. You just pump the old stuff out through the fill hole and fill through the same.

Thx! ordering today..going to jack up the car and get it ready. I put on an irs brace yrs back so I'm guessing I didn't seal it good enough.

I don't feel you had anything to do with it leaking again

brace on cover will continue to break seal over and over
