I have been thinking about this a lot lately seeing as how these True Forged tanks are bringing ridiculous money. I mean, $2000 dollars for some welded aluminum tanks??? Am I missing something? Don't get me wrong, they look fantastic and I would love to have a set, but $2k??? No way! Can someone please enlighten me as to why these are so expensive? Is there something about these tanks, besides the way they look, that make them so special? And if they are so desirable, why isn't anyone out there making a similar product? There is obviously a market for them.

They're nice, but they're not 2k nice. For that price you could have a set custom made. The main reason I went with True Forged is they're the only ones that offered a one piece tank for the 03/04. And even then I had to talk him into doing one that was polished.

When I bought them 5 years ago I paid almost 750 bucks shipped. Wrinkle black with polished caps and clear window on intercooler.. this was For both tanks and bought from him directly.
They are made in America and he had tons of color combos options to have them finished. quality is good.

I don't think they are worth 2k but good luck finding a set. Thats why someone has them for sale at 2k. You will wait a long time to find a pair if you refuse to just pay it.

I wouldn't sell mine and likely 90 percent of the others wouldn't either. I would try to make a deal with the person selling for 2k

$750 is not bad. I wouldnt mind paying a premium for quality tanks. I would absolutely do that if the option were still available. Does anyone know why True Forged stopped making these tanks? They are clearly the most desirable tanks to be had for these terminators.

I heard his wife got sick and he closed down his business to tend to her. No more wheels either. They are hard to get, hence the huge markup.

That's too bad but you gotta do what you gotta do. Family comes first!

Is there anything special inside of the aftermarket tanks. I'm sure there are some type of baffles to prevent aeration but is there anything else? I'm just not understanding why people aren't making them with the demand being so high. How difficult would it really be to make some?

They certainly look great! I need a fuel system first so I can bolt this damn whipple on that's been sitting in a box in my garage. This damn covid mess is delaying my build and it's starting to piss me off!

I bought a set from Steve for 750 when he was making them. Engraved with polished caps... I think I sold them for 750 as well.. this was years ago..

I purchased my current set up (brand new never mounted) for 1k shipped last year. That was for the rad tank, ic tank and ps tank. Brushed caps and the wrench. Didn't even think twice about spending that much.

There is a huge mark up because the look great and never pop up for sale. As far as performance they obviously are worth the price.

I'll sell mine eventually when I go trunk mount again... hopefully for 2k LOL.

Those look nice but seem simple. I'm sure a machine/metal fab shop could whip up a similar set.

I spoke to a shop today I was quoted $800-$1000 in labor to make something similar. Maybe they didn't want to the work so they quoted it high.

There are several reasons why Steve @ TF stopped making stuff.
1. Dickhead customers
2. Cost of material and EPA restrictions since he lives in California
3. I think he wanted a source of reliable income. His family grew by +1

I've often thought about maybe getting another 03/04 someday.
But the "things" that made that generation fun and unique, are long gone; True Forged, SOS, etc.

If I had to speculate, I'll bet a set of BNIB 3 Piece TF wheels (Chicaine or Victorys) would bring an EASY $5000.00+

Comes down to the qty. 1 off pieces are always high. Sometimes you can get 2 made for nearly the same price as 1 because the setup charge for the machine. If you buy 10 sets its probably only going to cost $200-300 each.

I run into this at work all the time. 1 off will cost $1000 but if I order 2 it's only $1200 or w/e. Guess what, we order 2 and have a spare.

Does that include you supplying the material? The price I was quoted was basically for welding the parts I bring in together.

I really need to look into getting back into welding.

Nope. The inside is open just like the normal tanks. Baffles might be good for those running the big pumps.

My guess is no one is jumping on board because there isn't enough interest. Most new owners are perfectly happy with the Cantons or Moroso tanks. When the PO of my car and his cousin saw the car for the first time after I bought it they couldn't understand why I took off the Canton tanks for the True Forged.
