About two months in and lots of progress made. It's now a roller and I'm hoping I can have the first start up by next month (or earlier). Since the last post, I've installed the brakes, suspension, lift kit, shifter, cerakoted the headers, put in the wheels, fuel system, and sidepods.

This thing is basically a fiberglass bodied go kart and as it sits, I can still lift the front end in the air, as well as the rear. You are basically sitting on the ground as well and the front tires are about eye level. Check out some photos-

Cerakote Burnt Bronze headers:

I ordered Recaro podium seats and rendered them how I am going to have them upholstered:

As it sits right now (the thing is TINY):

Two videos since I posted #2-

Nice job so far! Looks sweet!

Is there a vent at the top from tank to tank so you don't trap air filling from one side?

Looks great. Love the wheels. I have some BC forged rz21 on my car with the same finish.

eagerly awaiting to see this running. everything about this is killer.

Thanks guys!

Yes there will be vents for each tank and there is a -16AN line that connects the two tanks so they're balanced with fuel.

Wow this is a very cool project. I like your color choice - I prefer that over the red Ultima RS in the video you posted. Good call on that!

I assume they ship the kit with a detailed manual and instructions on how to assemble it all? Do they include torque specs for every fastener? You're going to have a blast with this car. Not sure if you posted this yet but what type of head unit / audio setup will you have? Many of the newer head units now support wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.

I will probably use Grundy for insurance, same as I used for my Viper. They do agreed value and from my understanding, it is not more expensive than a regular car due to the owners typically being the ones to fix the cars. They don't have to pay a shop rate and can ideally just pay for parts. Obviously a full loss would be a full loss.

I don't anticipate issues getting it registered mostly because I live in Florida and there are TONS of Factory Five cars that go to the local Cars & Coffee. From my research, it is a simple DMV inspection of the car and a notation of where the powertrain came from- if new, show an invoice and indicate new, if used (in the case of my transmission), then provide a VIN and receipt/invoice.

What you don't want to do is buy one of these in California. Not only do you have to pay a sales tax when you register the vehicle, you have to tally the amount of hours it took to build the car, then pay a shop rate to the government. So 300 hours x $100 = $30,000 you have to pay to the DMV.
I have Grundy with my Terminator. They have been good.

Thank you. I'm not really a fan of orange, but I thought this car just looked awesome in that color so I pulled the trigger on it.

So the kit did not come with a single piece of paper- no shipping manifest, instruction manual, nothing with my name on it. I thought that was kind of strange. The instruction manual is actually online in an owner's portal, which is great because they can constantly update it with photos or any other documentation. It's actually very well set up. As far as "detailed", some parts are pretty detailed, some aren't at all, but there is an owner's group on facebook that will answer pretty much any question anyone may have so that's a HUGE help. Most of the build uses rivets and torque values aren't needed most of the time, but the suspension/brakes did have them listed.

Audio wise, I'm not fitting it with a head unit or speakers. Everything I've read says the car is very loud and it will be almost pointless, and mine is straight piped with no cats. I'll probably wear earbuds if I want to listen to music. I do want to fit a small tablet so that I can have Waze and use my phone as a mobile hotspot.

Getting closer to the end! Engine is in so I can measure for the dry-sump and some heat shielding, then I'm just pulling it out to finalize all the coolant lines/wiring, then it's back in and ready to fire up. I wasn't 100% sure on what color to pick for the headers, but burnt bronze definitely turned out perfect with the orange:

Awesome that the end is nearing. The burnt bronze pipe do look really good with the orange paint. Great choice.

So all in all, how many hours do you estimate you will have put into the assembly when it finished?

Thanks, Bob. I wish the hours were something I kept track of, but I would estimate around 400-450. I did go outside the box and do a bunch of things that aren't required by the factory build, so that accounts for a good amount of it. I'd bet I could build one of these in about 6-8 weeks if I had all the parts right in front of me and never had to wait for anything.

The entire series is fun to watch. I hope when you are doing the editing of the engine install you do a time lapse of that. Was almost disappointed in the last video because I thought it was all just going to be "results". But then you threw in the lapse of the dash and canopy install.

Call me weird but I like the time lapse of all the rivets. It gives me a good dose of reality that I do not have the patience to do it LoL.

I just got done doing a time lapse of putting the engine in, and a time lapse of removing it so you're good! I was thinking of doing a time lapse of the 3D printer making the throttle body relocation, but the print is going to take.... SIX.... DAYS. Crazy. Also, on the topic of rivets- if I never see one again, I'll be happy. I've drilled thousands of holes at this point and still need to do a bunch more. Almost there though!

6-8 weeks on a "regular' assembly/build is really impressive. 400-450 hours roughly for this one is mind-boggling. You obviously are enjoying it, and your Ultima RS will be a one-of-a-kind build and you'll really appreciate what you built. Awesome sir! Awesome!!
