Hello fellow SVTP peeps.

Thinking about bringing the family to Miami in January.

We typically go to FL every winter but stay in St.Pete's Beach area and thought
we would try something new.

How is Miami compared to St.Pete's?...Areas to stay or not stay?Things to do?How
are the restaurants?Fishing decent?

Thanks for any info.

What do you want to do?

IIRC Miami has had a stringent covid restrictions in the past.
So, double check that before booking a trip to be locked up in your room or have to drive to Broward/Palm Beach to eat somewhere.

I enjoyed Miami when I was single and hit up the clubs. Now with kids, **** no.

Jupiter/Gardens area is nice and relaxed. Some nice areas like harborside, beaches are nice but not much to see per say. Unless you want to just relax on beaches and go into Jonathan Dickinson park. Awesome place to live though.

Miami is more known for the party scene and wealth. For family time, I don't see any real advantage to head to Miami over St Pete. The St Pete area always wins the best beach in the US pre some guy who ranks beaches.

East coast, hit st Augustine. Awesome area. I ****ing hate the Miami area. St Pete is a nice area, or try sanibel/ Captiva.

The only place you’d want to go really in Miami is south beach and that’s still ehhhh. I wouldn’t particularly recommend it as a family get away.

It really depends on the vacation you’re looking.

A trip to key west is recommended also.

I didn't care that much for Miami when we went for our honeymoon. To many uppity people and people wanting to be uppity. Best part of Miami was watching some drunk dude still in his hotel uniform stumble around the beach and eventually pass out face down while the tide came in. On lookers watch as waves crashed over him but the cops eventually pulled him out of the water.

Miami is definitely not the type of place you want to bring the family. If you want good (but very expensive) restaurants, you'll find them in Miami but the people are pretty terrible and the traffic is horrendous. St. Pete/Clearwater beaches are WAY nicer imo than anything on the east coast of FL. I live in the Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter area and I'd recommend getting an Airbnb here if you want family time. There are tons of great restaurants here, plenty of access to beaches that aren't packed, the pier, fishing, etc.

Our last trip before covid was to the Fontaineblu In Miami as a family. Was an Airbnb, one of the condos. Was perfect for us for that trip. We were looking for a warm temperature "city" trip (was back in Feb). Otherwise, if we were looking for the low key chill, we FAR prefer the west coast. We are seriously looking for a winter house in the Naples area. Let get this damn covid thing over with so we can get down there to actually look.

If you want chill to the extreme, head down to the Keys.

Been to Miami a couple of times years ago and St. Pete Beach once a year for the last 4 or 5 years. We've been to many other places in Fl and are definitely drawn to St Pete. Would not go back to Miami again...

I grew up in the St. Pete area and I went to grad school down in Miami for 3 years. Fun when you're young and/or single. Not a place I would go for a family vacation. If it's just you and your wife, thats a different story, more adult oriented, ie: nightlife, shopping, high dollar type places to go and see. The beaches are ok, but as said above, the Tampa Bay Area has some of the best beaches.
