Having some work done on my car. Mechanic reports the lower caged pulley bearing is shot, as well as idlers etc. Ordered up some billet idlers. Should we even bother trying to rebuild the lower cage, or just get a metco setup?
I got idlers from vmp. Metco idler setup was twice the price, and I already have a snub idler on there. Gonna replace the bearing in it.
Accessory drive will get new oem style idlers.
My tri bar bushings are still there, so no damage to pins.
I'll probably make the final decision based on how the tri bar threads look when it comes apart. Def leaning toward rebuild if looks like it'll hold up when done.
Pulley rebuild info are in there. I'd add heat during disassembly but that always destroys the bushings. What makes you think the bearings are bad? Some people don't understand how the tribar work and think the sloppiness is a bent shaft or bad bearings.
Mechanic said bearing feels gritty when you spin the pulley. He applied heat to the shaft to get it out of the damper, prolly toasted the bearing then.
I know it's staked in, glad to hear it should be a store stock item.
