I’m trying to get more info because I’m thinking about buying a cobra with upgraded cams. I’m concerned because I’ve read many negatives and don’t really see much benefit besides sound. Yes it increases power in the upper powerband but I’d rather have drivability and less chance of issues arising. The car is making 650whp (vmp) and it’s got supporting mods with “no issues”. I know it’s expensive to install them but if I get the car I’d want to take the cams off? What do you think it would cost to remove and install oem? I know it’s a hassle and costly but to me it doesn’t seem like it’s beneficial to have them. I don’t want to not get the car because of cams because everything else is perfect. My friend says I’m crazy I should leave it alone. I guess if it’s tuned right it will be fine? Thanks for any advice you may have. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I'd be worried about emissions here. With all the covid bullshit they put sniffer in the tailpipe now, or at least when I went thru

Hey thanks. That’s cool. I’m from Delaware too. Yeah emissions could be a possible issue but it has passed where the car is from and the previous owners from my understanding. Love your SB by the way.

I had some put in when I got my engine rebuilt. Strictly because I felt like I'd be leaving power on the table or regret not doing it when the engine was apart. Drivability is pretty much the same, might have lost some low end torque but for what ever reason my setup was never ~1:1 HP to Torque like many with VMPs. I am running 10.6:1 CR though which might help the the bottom end drivability. The sound with long tubes is nice at idle and really wakes up and sounds different than many Cobras at WOT.

Would I do it again? Ehhhhhh wouldn't spend the money going back to stock or stop me from buying one with them. Just don't know if it really gained me much. Have no complaints either though. Made 721/600 with only a 2.8 upper on a 2.3 VMP still running stock intake tube with a open filter.

Emissions wize around here no one cares as long as the light isn't on. I don't have cats, egr and it's registered as a V6... Full NYS inspection, not the upstate version. No idea what Delware does though.

I was in the same boat - bought a Cobra with Stage 3 comp cams. Put the car back to stock because of emissions here in California. I did it myself but got a quote from a reputable builder and they said $1,500. I would let that stop you from buying it, IMO.

Sorry - misspell. I *wouldn’t* let that stop you from buying the car you’re looking at.

I’d buy it if the rest of the car meets your requirements and then have it tuned by a reputable tuner (or yourself if that’s in your wheel house). Then make the decision from there as to remove the cams or not. With a proper tune, it probably drives like factory if not better. Also when buying a new performance car and you don’t know it’s past, getting the tune checked out and verifying the proper AF is a must. I have lots of friends with cammed and built engines and they all drive like stock. Do you happen to know the specs on the cams the car in question has?

I love my Crower Stage 3 cams. Have had them in for 10 years, and 30K miles. If you do buy the car, and decide to go back to stock cams, let me know. I still have my stock cams and springs I'd be willing to part with.

Thank you. No I haven’t got specs yet. The car isn’t guaranteed for sale at this time. When it is and I find out I’ll post on here especially if I end up getting it as well.

Oh wow that’s very nice of you thanks. I’ll have to see what happens with the car first and go from there. Glad you like yours. Once I drive it I’ll know if it’s for me and if it has any issues so I can decide to move forward or not. I know the cams aren’t as common in these but still a nice upgrade for its own reasons.

It says a “custom grind” so not sure if that’s good or not. Thanks again for your help
