Looks like I’m gonna need a new set of idler pullies on my 03. Been looking at the4 pulley set from LFP. Anyone here ever use them? Any opinions ?

I just ordered the 3 idler kit from vmp (I already have a snubber). Just under $150, ordered it yesterday and got delivered today.

Spend the extra to get the double bearing pullies. I believe the LFP's are just rebranded Metco's. I have them and so do many others and the quality is top notch!

Meh...stockers are fine...till you hit 3rd gear with 17lbs and peel it back killing your belt, nicking your 4lb lower and leaving you stranded. I went with Metcos back in the day. Not sure what options are available today but I will say it is a crucial mod stock or not IMO.

I’m actually guessing that it’s not one of my pullies. I swapped out the stock ones years ago with a moto blue set. But this year the car started to make a loud chirping sound at start up. The sound would go away after about 5 minutes unless it was raining out then the sound wouldn’t stop. I wouldn’t get the noise if I took off the blower belt. Pullies right? Problem— when the car is chirping it happens in a pattern of three, pause and three again. If I touch (and I mean ever so lightly) the clutch pedal the chirping becomes constant. When driving if I clutch to shift the chirping gets louder and faster. TOB? The clutch is two years old with less than 1k miles on it and I used a Ford Performance tob. As a test I swapped pullies with some really old ones from my 98 expedition. Noise gone. If it’s my pullies then why does the noise change when I touch the clutch pedal? I don’t want to drop $400 on a pulley set to find out it’s something else

Oh well. Guess I haven’t found the problem. After 5 days the noise is back.

Just cruised over most of the thread but if water changes the noise, it’s not the pulley bearings. Water will usually quiet a dry belt. Sometimes it’ll make it louder temporarily. Regardless, that’s the best way to pursue either a belt or a bearing problem.

If it is the belt, try flipping it. Like if you can read the numbers and names on it while standing in front of the car, take it off and flip it so they are backwards to you.

Had a squeaky belt that started after the car SAR for a few months. Flipped it and. Lose gone. Been years now.

Could be the inner belt system too so if you dribble some water, try and isolate which belt you hit.

I’ll try the flip and see what happens. I don’t think it’s the inner belt because when the noise started that was the first thing I changed along with the tensioner pulley( felt a little gritty).

Ok. Take a bottle of water out there and just slowly dribble it on the belt while idling while it’s making noise. If it changes at all the belt is making the noise.

Is it possible a beating has failed enough to make a wobble so the belt is contacting the edge or something, sure. But you’d prob be chewing belts up and be able to see a wobble and it would never stop.

Belt squeak is often caused by a misaligned alternator or tensioner. Are either of these items aftermarket? You need a laser alignment tool to check the pulley alignment.

Ok. I flipped the belt. Had a hard time getting it off the alt pulley so I removed the two lower idlers. I just happened to turn over one of the idler pulley bolts and there was a tiny little pebble ground down on the back of the washer. It was polished so it was definitely rubbing on something. Anyway I reassembled and gave it a start and there is no noise. Since this comes and goes I’ll have to wait and see. Thanks for all the help. Keeping my fingers crossed

Bought the UPR double bearing idler 4pc set last year on Black Friday for around $265. Everything is great so far and I like the black look. Hard to justify spending double on the Metco's when these were on sale
