I would say not needed , if anything I would think the “ image they are trying to convey” statements applies more to FCA.

We are not debating FCA though

Any engine family that begins with "Eco" is making a pretty clear statement of the image they are trying to present. One of rainbows and unicorn farts.

Just sayin;)

I wasn’t up on the 3.0 or 3.5 rumors. But still. Drive a vehicle with a 392. People talk a lot about soul here. The 392 has it in excess. No ecottv6 can provide that soul/feeling/sound/powerband, etc.
I love my new 5.0 and would love to see it under the hood of the Bronco but that’s clearly not going to happen.

Lol, ok I was trying to use FCA since it is a far better example of your grasping as straws reply for the simple fact that Ford has made power with V8, TTV6 and hybrid TTV6....

Your statement doesn't back why has made motor such as the voodoo, the predator and more recently the powerboost ....none of those has the " eco" family you speak of yet for made them and put them in flag ship models ( obviously not the powerboost yet) .

So with that your statement seems pretty naive. Like I said Ford has shown they do not " NEED" to have a V8 to offer top performance. FCA fits your " making a pretty clear statement of the image they are trying to present" statement much better.

The EcoBoost engines drive like a well tuned diesel (pre-emissions), and have a major weight advantage over a 392.

I'm still not sold on the long term reliability of the ecoboost though, the coyotes are proven to last which is why I'd rather see one in the Bronco. A friend of mine traded in his 2014 3.5 f150 at 109k miles with turbos leaking coolant and timing chain rattle. My parents neighbor currently has a 12 CCSB 3.5EB with timing chain problems as well at 130k.

small engine + high compression + direct injection + a turbo or two is not something I'd want to own 10-15 years down the road

Both of the examples you gave are Gen 1 EcoBoost motors and there were things changed for the gen 2 EcoBoost to proven those issues

Gen 1 EcoBoost was based on the Duratec architecture. The Duratec was used primarily in FWD applications like the Taurus, Edge, Explorer, and Flex. It was also used by Mazda in many of their vehicles. It used a Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket (DAMB) valvetrain with one timing chain driving both intake cams and secondary chains to drive the exhaust cams.

To build the EcoBoost, Ford added direct injection, lowered the compression ratio, and replaced the rotating assembly with stronger components including a forged steel crank. They also added oil jets to cool the underside of the pistons. Gen 1 truck applications used Borg Warner K03 turbos.

Gen 2 was a clean sheet engine design and was engineered using lessons learned from Gen 1 as well as some features from the 2.7 Nano. Port fuel injection was added to supplement the direct injection, and the valvetrain is a lower friction roller follower system with hydraulic lash adjusters. Camshafts are hollow core to save weight. It uses 2 primary timing chains, one for each bank, which is more robust than one large chain. Turbos are still BW K03, but were upgraded with new Mar-M-247 alloy turbine wheels with a change in vane angle. Compression ratio was increased to 10.5:1.

Not needed, or doesn't fit the image they are trying to convey?

I would say not needed , if anything I would think the “ image they are trying to convey” statements applies more to FCA.

Ford commercial they keep running: "We electrified the Mustang. We're committed to a cleaner future and electrification."

FCA commercials: big, smoky burnouts, revving V8s.

Ford trying to advertise a CUV as a Mustang is just sad. Bringing the thread back on track. Jeep V8 at your dealer early 2021.

13.0 quarter mile and nasty exhaust note...? That's pretty awesome!
Looks to be a pretty competitive package. Definitely hope they release this in a Gladiator format.
Although...considering a fully loaded regular Rubicon is $55K...this thing must be $65-70K?

My order is in. No official pricing yet but unofficially, I think it will be just shy of $70k.

I picked granite crystal. Pretty much all the options and packages are compulsory. I will be ordering a set of 37's as soon as I get a delivery date which I am being told could be as early as the end of January. I hope that is the case but it will get here when it gets here.

I specd my 392 today. Sting Gray, with towing package and not much else. I was going to go with the Nacho color but considered it way to much orange with same color top and flairs. Strange, but you can't get a black top and flairs. All must be body color.
