I modified a disconnect tool (aluminum disk type) to fit...and by modify I mean I used my grinder on it like a caveman.
I had to tear up one of my fuel line tools for a hybrid fusion, Ford and their infinite wisdom decided to make it a tighter fit to remove the line from the fuel rail and make you buy a special tool. We have several hybrids that are used by detectives and they always put E85 in them which is a big no no for the hybrids.

I got the HF tool set ...gonna try one more time ...if not, gonna pay $100 to have it done LOL

I fought the fuel line to fuel hat on my mach for hours with the X tool and various plastic ones, finally went and bought the aluminum set and it popped off first try. Im pretty sure I now posses all versions of the fuel line removal tools.

Hold the line, twist the fuel filter around a bit before you start inserting the tool. Alot of mud, dirt and other debris will hold those fingers down and make it impossible to come out. Insert tool and push filter tool forward into the line first then twist again and pull out.

If all else fails yank until the finger clip breaks and replace it.

Haha, I've been checking back in here now and then to see if you got it taken care of. Glad it worked for you, for the price can't beat them, makes life easier moving forward.
best ****ing 12 dollars I have spent on a tool set ! In my head I was thinking there's no way this is going to work better....and low and behold it popped right off LOL. I think bc the tool is shorter it always for more leverage and pressure on the fuel line, and the metal might be a little thinner to grab the teeth that are inside the line. Anyway THANK YOU for the tip. Saved $120 doing it myself.

Just put new FP in.
It's a bitch getting under there with the IRS.
I removed all the lines and fittings and replaced with nylon stuff. I compression fitted the section from filter to front.
I used brass barbed fittings with oetiker clamps on the nylon lines to shape the lines at angles like the OEM. Then protected lines with split rubber hose.
I didn’t want to mess with that shit again.

I was following your progress (or lack thereof) and your post of VICTORY with the HF tool elicited a shout here in my office. :D I know how freaking frustrating it can be to be stifled like that. This was really good news, and like you said, you saved a lot of money. And no more frustration and grief. Congrats!

It only took me 15min to get mine off. I have a lift, but I don't understand how its that bad. I used a foot and a half screwdriver as a fulcrum. Just the scissor tool from the parts store.

It was the first time it had been done to the Cobra too. I guess I didn't have any debris in between the clips and body.

Edit: Congrats on getting that sum bitch, I remember the filter on the wife's 97' Explorer. Was a pain in the ass. Quick connect is what they should call them.

guys this is sad....but this damn 01 F150 fuel filter has me cursing ...spent 2 separate days trying to swap it out. Using the metal "special tool". The rear comes out pretty easy. The front side will NOT release from the filter. I believe the "teeth" inside are stuck. I have soaked the inside with lube. Is there a better way of releasing the line from the filter? Maybe a different tool works better ??? The tool I am using is the X looking metal tool.

Mr. Perfect Genius here cant figure out how to change a simple ****ing fuel filter.

Now why am I not surprised?
