I never could get the engine to run right with MS2. Forum tried to help, but nothing anybody suggested did anything helpful. It randomly skipped, missed, popped, backfired, you name it. Butt dyno showed it lacking in power, and it wouldn't rev past about 5k.

I installed the holley and it ran great right out of the box. I did have an issue with the holley ecu which necessitated replacing it (it stopped being able to read/operate the wide band sensor). It took some argument with support, but they finally sent me a new one.

The difference in price between the two is the support (and maybe warranty?). Well worth it to me. I didn't need any extra I/O, so that was never a consideration in my case. I think I had the fan and fuel pump running off ignition switched relays. Fan was on high speed at all times.

Its supposed to be possible to keep the cluster with a holley system; I just haven't seen anyone saying much about how to do it.

I have an ms2 pnp (microsquirt) for a fox body running a massflo setup on my 64 Falcon with a 289, before that it was on my 37 ford 351c 4v massflo setup and never a hiccup. I now have a ms3 gold pnp on my 37 with the 351c and it works great as well. I have a ms3 pnp for my 03 sitting in a box that I'm not sure I want to install not because it's a bad product but it's a rabbit hole im not really sure I want to go down. I'll end up adding speed sensors, knock sensors, have to ditch evap etc. I always like to think of my car as still being stock.

I'd wait until the speedo fix goes through before installing it. Saves you the hassle of having to pull it back out to send it in. It might be worth contacting them now actually. They told me they're ready to move forward with it.

Beyond that the guys running it are liking it. One guy on the forums is still running a returnless fuel system with his.

It is just me being paranoid, I'm sure it will be great, looking forward to the flexibility of the system. It will be awhile before I install it, I have the engine out now and plenty of work to do before the MS3 even gets thought about. Thanks for the tip on the speedo fix btw.

Ok I've been drooling over it, but after reading the manual I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to have the boost control functionality I was hoping for.

When using the flexfuel capability, you can only blend between two different boost tables which are tp vs. RPM. You can run boost by speed, but only that one curve. You can also switch between boost tables. There might be more you can do with the nitrous functions and additional solenoids, but that's additional wiring and hardware. So you either need to choose only one feature you want, or have to switch between tunes frequently.

What can still be used in parallel is the launch feature to pull some timing by time, and the traction control feature.

So the question is- is it still worth it to get and rely on those features to manage power? It limits your options and user input, but if those features are just that good and reliable- maybe it's still worth it?

I'm sure the MS3 Pro is a fine system, but if I'm doing a stand alone it's going to be the Holly System with their screen. For a while I was weirded out about not being able to use the stock instrument cluster but after seeing some pics of people retrofitting Holly's screen in the stock cluster location it looked really good. Not the cheapest option but after it's installed and your car is tuned with no headaches... It's worth it. I don't have a need to go stand alone but someday my itch to tinker may get the best of me and I'll do it.

For anyone else on the fence- diyautotune is having a 10% off black Friday sale through Dec 1st.

For me that temptation was hard to resist and it looks like I'll be picking one up. I'll look forward to posting my experiences with it.
