Yep, got nailed doing 90 in a 60 in NC. I went online to pay the ticket and found out that I have a mandatory court appearance. Within a week after receiving the ticket, I was bombarded with mailed advertisements from attorneys in the area stating they can get me out of the ticket or get the fine/points reduced without me showing up in court for a "small" fee. Yeah right.

Two questions:
1. What do I say when I appear in court...appeal to the judge to pay the fine if no points are added?
2. How is it legal for my alledged offense to be released to the public for attorneys to find and then solicit me?

I got a 31 in 25 a few years ago. Part of town I’d never been in, coasting downhill. Bam!

I paid some company something ridiculous like $50 and it was gone.

Never showed up. Nothing

All of that is public records, they constantly request all that.

I believe anything in NC over 80 is mandatory court. My cousin hired a lawyer for 94 in a 70. He basically paid the ticket, court costs and attorneys fees but nothing on his record. $600 comes to mind

I would pay to have it reduced. I have done it in Vegas a couple times. You pay the regular fine, pay the attorney some fee and then it doesn’t go on your record. At least the is how it worked in Las Vegas.

TAF...you're hilarious.

Boogie Man...yes, it's about a 3 hour drive from where I live.

I suppose paying an attorney if I get no points is worth it in the long run; however, I'm a principled man and I really feel like talking to the judge myself. Can't I say the same thing a lawyer will and save some cash?

I would just get in touch with a lawyer if you are from out of state and have them take care of it for you, they will go to your court hearing and deal with the DA. I got a C&R a while back and it cost me a little under $400 to have a lawyer take care of it for me, no points on my license.

eh, you were 50% over the limit. The other part of it is a decent traffic lawyer already knows everybody, they hash it out and who knows if they even have to go into a courtroom. That on top of it being a 6 hour round trip I think I'd just pay em

I agree with getting a lawyer & letting them handle.... My son did this in NY State & it worked very well.
I just have a question, what exactly do you mean about being a principled man & how do you think it would help?

Not to bash you, but the way you talk with not knowing how lawyers have your info and how you think talking to the judge yourself over a lawyer is a better idea, you seem like you're 16. LOL

I've had three 100+ in a 55/65 tickets in NC. Lawyer up. Depending on the area I have a recommendation, but screw representing yourself. You were doing 90.

Got popped for 97 in a 65 once. The friendly officer let me go.
He asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I replied "I had the cruise control on seveeeennnnntttyyyy..." (about to 75) and he cut me off and replied "97, I got you doing 97. I bet this thing goes faster than that."
I was in my old 97 gt, so sadly it probably wouldn't go much faster. hahaha

He was a nice guy, let me off with a warning, then followed me about 20 miles down the highway in the middle lane until I exited.

Kiohtee...what's your recommendation? There were other cars around...phones attached to ears oblivious to what's going on around them. Lowly me jamming out to music trying to get where I was going in a timely manner.

I have three time-tested recommendations;
1) Lawyer up,
2) Lawyer up, and,
3) Lawyer up

This is my recommendation. My only recommendation. The judge doesn't care to talk to you, you're a nobody to him, and most people with common sense, you can't give any valid reason for going that fast in a zone like that. If you had one, the officer would have had it when he pulled you over.

Lawyer up, man up and move on.

Lawyer up. Pay them whatever it takes to keep you from getting points. Admit you stepped on your dick and pay the piper. Your insurance rates may go up as a result. If your rates do go up, you may be paying for several years. It will probably be worth paying whatever they lawyer charges.

Pay an atty

My friend (not me because I NEVER speed), just paid just under $500 for an atty to knock down 25 over to "improper equipment." No points, no court appearance, all fees, court costs, and fines covered with that fee.
