Stuck throttle maybe?
Funny, yet not funny. My dad put his 69 427/435 with 3 deuces into the laundry room when I was younger. Center carb was mechanical, the other two vacuum. Somehow it went wide open, he panicked and dropped the clutch. Not a happy day. I drove that car a bunch. What a beast...

Ive dealt with multiple unexpected brake failures over the years. Don't be afraid to drop a car into reverse

Yeah, I have to agree that it seemed more like a stuck throttle issue than a brake issue based on how fast he was going. Either way, it sucked for him.

What I was trying to figure out by looking at the other cars in the driveway was he just done taking out the Vette for a cruise and how was it stopping out on the road if he did not have brakes in the driveway. I had 3 classic Vettes a 69, 70, and 71 two of them being big blocks and know how temperamental they are and reliability was not the best for Vettes of that era.

My dad had a 68 convertible 427/435hp and he said it was always hit or miss with that car, but when it was on it was the fastest car in the area. A friend of mine had a 69 427/435 and I drove that and it was pretty impressive for the day.

They were fun cars during that time period and those big blocks were lots of fun in the day. My favorite Vette ever and probably any car is the 67 Vette coupe 427-435. The best lines ever on a Vette. I had a chance to buy a 67 427 Vette coupe in Maroon back in 1975 for $4500 just like the one pictured below but passed.

You were always wrenching on those cars back then. My friend had a 70 LT1 Vette coupe which had solid lifters and they always had be adjusted. It was a big PITA. But we had fun cruising and street racing.

Todays higher HP cars are faster than those 60's big blocks with less displacement. Its why I like my GT500 so much because it has the 60's muscle car look with more power and its faster than them also.

My cousin in Hawthorne, CA had a red 427/435 while I was stationed in Long Beach. We'd go cruising and OMG, what a freaking rush. The torque was awesome. What wasn't awesome was literally watching the gas gauge move as he drove. I think he only averaged around 5 mpg. But they were all fun miles, and gas was pretty cheap back then. Pretty much looked identical to this one. I'll bet he wishes he still owned it.
