Edit: There’s no ‘E’ in Vacuum. How did that get there?

Sad day when I’m asking you guys for recommendations for a home vacuum.

We are mostly carpeted, with hard floors in the kitchen, back porch, and bathrooms.

Wife and I have 3 boys, a small dog, and two cats, so it’s going to get used to hell and back.

Only requirements are ease of use (bagless), hard-floor usability, and a hose attachment (I suck up more cat litter from those dumbshit cats than is reasonable).

Had an older dyson for 10 years now but it’s getting regulated to garage duty.

Wife send me a couple links to dyson ball models, but figured I’d ask here.

(And I’m well aware everyone here has a smoking-ass nanny or maid or banging-hot super model wife that cleans, cooks, and vacuums, so maybe you’d be willing to ask her)

Vacuums: We bought a Kirby back in 2000 and it is still in use today. Expensive and heavy, but it cleans like no other vacuum. Big advantage is the suction hoses are twice as big as most other vacuums, so nothing gets jammed up in it. The Kirby may last longer than we do at this rate.

We also have a irobot which cleans all the floors in between running the Kirby. its slow moving and very detailed on its run. Nice thing is....it cleans when while you at work and you can control where and where not to clean.

I bought a shark vacuum from Costco, the belt doesn’t burn out at all and it works well and has a swivel or ball head. When I replaced my carpet the guy said not to use a dyson. The shark works on hard floors, you can turn the brushes off. Works well especially for the $150 I paid for it when it was on the Christmas sale

Should’ve mentioned we have a roomba, but with the savages found roaming in our home, it spends a lot of time dead in corners, shut in rooms, or speaking foreign languages.

We have the cordless Shark vacuum. It comes with two batteries so one is always on the charger while the other is in the vacuum. I like it for it's portability and I don't have to worry about a cord getting hung up on things. The top detaches from the bottom for cleaning things such as cat litter, however, I don't think it would do as good as a hose.
We have eight dogs, three cats and two kids, the kids are 19 & 17 so they're practically adults, but the Shark along with our robo vac keeps the floors pretty clean. We usually vacuum and mop once a week. I vacuum and wife mops.

My grandmother has a shark, don't know which model, my main bitch with it is that no matter what you end up having to stick your hand in the bin to get all the junk out, hopefully thats been resolved.

Ive had a Dyson ball for over 10 years and outside of some basic maintenance (filters, wheels, beater bar) havent had an issue. I don't like using one thats not a ball at this point. My house is all hardwood but turn the bar on for some area rugs and dog beds.

We got a shark as a wedding gift and I will say it's certainly a better vacuum than any other I've ever had.

I looked on their website to figure out what model we have but I guess I don't know. It's purple or blue I'm pretty sure, it also might be grey.

All I know is it's a vacuum and it's a shark.

I know you said bagless, but I will +2 on the Kirby. It is expensive, but built the way things used to be built: to last!

Old acquaintance used to work for the Tucson Kirby distributor and had one. I borrowed it and hot damn, best vacuum I've ever used.

I'm a huge fan of cordless often used tools so the Shark cordless has my vote. My SIL has one and they love it and use it often. I have a central vac which is great and would be my other recommendation if there was interest having that installed. They exhaust outside and they last for decades.

Dyson doesn't impress me.

I loved my Kirby and had it for 20 years back in the day but they are expensive. Hated that it had those stupid paper bags which made lots of dust when changing. My Shark Pro Rotator has just as good suction as the Kirby plus a sealed bagless unit which I like. Have been using the Shark Pro Rotator for the last 7+ years and it still works great. I need to upgrade though to the duo clean Vertex because of the hair pickup feature. My wife's long hair will destroy any vacuum cleaners but the new Shark Vertex takes care of that now.

Since my wife will still work after her rehab and I have been retired 6 years so Mr. mom here takes care of all the women's jobs....vacuum, laundry, food shopping, cooking plus more and I still have to do all the man's jobs too. What a raw deal. Tip is do not retire if your wife is still going to work......lol.

Dyson is cheap plastic junk, always hated mine. Very overrated brand.

I went all out with a Miele recently, and while it is a really nice unit, I don't think it is neccesarily worth the cost. Finding good reviews is nearly impossible too. I'd probably just get a $300ish Shark or whatever with HEPA filter if I did it again.

I have a Kirby, been running strong for 25 years. Would buy again.

Just bought a Roomba 960 a month ago for $200. Works good for cleaning up surface dog hair and dust and under furniture, but doesn't clean very deep. Too new to recommend or reject.

We have a Shark and Dyson Animal Ball 2. The Shark did okay with our hardwood floors, but once we got a dog the animal fur seems to get caught in brush often. The Shark did not perform on our shag rug, at all. It did well on short carpet. We purchased a $300 Animal Ball Dyson for our rug basically.

All in all, the Dyson out performs the Shark. However, the Dyson feels cheaply made where the Shark feels sturdy.

Our roomba is the 980...great for dog hair as we have 2 Shelties. Great for in betweens.

I've had a Kirby since 1996. The attachments CANNOT BE BEAT. I use it now 100% vehicle vacuum due to the attachments. That circular wizz wheel brush is the shit for floor mats etc. Replaced the belt ONCE, since 1996. Still running strong.

My wife wants a Dyson cordless/rechargable for xmas. My jaw dropped when I saw $399.00!

She told me, "What? It's cheaper than a tune on your car."

Just throwing it out there, but I'm a yuuuuge fan of Oreck. Also a fan of corded. The bags are super easy to change, and the thing is as light as a feather. I have an XL2. 15 years, and it looks/works great. No repairs except for belts (beyond easy to do, one Phillip's head).Does it all, hardwoods to carpet. You get a once a year, free check and cleaning at any Oreck dealer. Works great on cat hair and litter. The only thing that jams it up is every month or so, my womans long-ass hair . Rapunzel has got nothing on her

Not what you wanted as a recommendation, but they work great!

No to Dyson....Won't pick up anything on kitchen/hardwood floor unless use bar attachment. Dyson rep told me they make their vacuums for 5 year life span!!!

Windtunnel- no- too heavy and doen't work on hard wood floors. Dirt Devil worked but can't find hepa bags= again no hardwood floors
