What do people think about gearing your diff so you cross the 1/4 mile line at redline in 3rd instead of 4th?

One less shift to eat time. And as I IIRC, power to weight matters much more than gear ratio.

i think 4th gear is fine to get into personally. 373s, 390s or 410s imo.

I think you'd need something in the range of 3.08 to accomplish that unless your car can't get out the 11's. I think it would be really hard on first gear.

A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend of mine who goes thru the traps in 3rd with 3.08 gears, 26" tall tires and a SBF that revs to low 6000's. He has a Tremec 600 with 1.28 3rd gear ratio. Ours is 1.30 in 3rd.

I’d spend some time on Wallace Racing automotive calculators but usually the more gears you multiply your available power, the quicker the rate of acceleration.
Plus it’ll feel like a dog around town.
