Just got a 2wd 4.0 Ranger, in good shape but the factory 225 70 14 are...lets say there's lots of room for improvement. would like to get some '01 15 inch Explorer "swirlies" and go with a small lift and 235 70 15. Factory 3:55 on a 4 speed auto. Likely go up to 4:10 and adjust the vss for the tire change as well. Any of you guys know of any pitfalls I'll run into if I did this?

Good Trucks. Slow as balls, but they don't die.

No real pitfalls. Just swap the VSS gear. Throw in some baby lift springs, get the correct camber sleeves for the front, and let it rip.

Ahhh...
Bringing back some good memories with my old 1995 Ranger...
Except mine was a 3.0L with the 5-speed manual 2wd...

I actually did a rear leaf hanger swap [F/R] to get 4" down on the rear & Eibach springs while retaining the OE I-beams for a 2" drop up front.
Also installed Hellwig performance sway-bars front & rear.
On, one-year only, 98 Cobra rims [17x8] with 255/50R17 tires, front & rear.
Except I did not use spacers up front:
On the front cobra rims, I had to ditch the center cap and slightly "machine-down" the center opening so it would fit over the Ranger hub & allow the bearing dust-cap to protrude through.

Spending money on a 25 year old truck (lift, gears, rims, tires) all sounds like a horrible idea.

I REALLY like this truck. SUPER easy to work on, parts are cheap and readily available (New or used) and can hold a V8....this thing is like an adult lego set
