Update: I tried connecting to my laptop via the the mini USB. The Laptop indicates the device has malfunctioned and is not recognized. The screen does change slightly, but definitely doesn't look healthy. Guess I'll be chucking it into the electronics recycle bin and getting a new one. Given the feedback I got on here, that's not a bad thing.

Update:

I spoke to SCT Support.

Since there is no way to return the car back to stock with the existing device, I have two options:

1. Take it to a Ford dealer and have them flash the PCM to stock, purchase a new SCT device and then take the car to get it re-tuned (on the Dyno)

2. Buy a new SCT device and work with SCT support. They will supply a file that can be used to basically accomplish getting the car back to a stock tune....and storing it on the new device. Then take the car to a tuner.

Of note: This SCT device is no longer supported and apparently banned by the EPA!!

Next step....figure out which newer SCT device to get. If anyone has an opinion, please let me know.

Don't over think this. Don't worry about not being able to return to stock, stock tune stuck in the old device, having a dealer reflash the car, sct potentially assisting you with a recovery, ect. Not needed.

Take the car to your custom tuner of choice. Buy a new a hand held from them and have them tune the car. Simple
I agree with this. My understanding is that in cases like this, the current tune will be saved as the "stock tune" on the new device you use, and from there the dyno tuner can save a new custom file on your device.

As for which device to get, there aren't too many choices with SCT or any stock PCM reflash device. The x4 is the current model, and when new models come out, the older versions don't get restocked.

Unfortunately, not according to the dyno shop I spoke to and the SCT support folks. I had planned to get an upgraded SCT device anyways, just going to require a little extra work to get things back to where they should be.

Frankly, I'm more mad at myself for not having tested the hand held when I picked it up from the dealer who sold me the car (and got it from the previous owner). Oh well, live and learn.

Yes, so purchase a Xcal4. There are a lot of tuners online that will sell you the tuner, and give you a basic off the shelf tune for no charge.
